“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” – Hebrews 6:19

Anyone who has lived with cancer will know the emotional roller coaster it takes one on. It leads you and your loved ones on a journey strewn with physical and emotional obstacles. It can be a lonely, frightening, and confusing path. I have been on both sides of the fence: first, as a caregiver to my husband for four years and latterly, as a cancer survivor of stage three melanoma. My family and I sought and found support in God and the Christian community. By placing my hope in Jesus, God’s peace has given me the emotional stability to raise my two sons single-handedly for 10 years.

What sufferers need
Cancer sufferers need support and a sense of belonging in an environment where they feel safe to be vulnerable – open and honest sharing as well as encouragement to go on living with cancer without fear. We are not meant to walk this journey alone.

I have learnt much about emotional and spiritual growth alongside vital practical issues such as good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, stress management, as well as the power of the Word, prayer, and forgiveness. Cancer sufferers need ongoing spiritual, emotional, and practical help, and that’s hard to find. Thus, Anchor for Cancer has been birthed to support everyone battling cancer and those supporting a loved one. We learn from God and from each other.

“The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.” – Proverbs 20:27

What is Anchor for Cancer?
Anchor for Cancer is a 12 week course, covering the life experiences of healing from cancer survivors, including two pastors. We share testimonies, have open forums to exchange views, cover topics from stress management to diet to receiving inner peace, and listen to talks by a haematologist and a naturopath among others.

“I sought the Lord and He answered me, He delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalm 34:4
