What started as a step of faith in September 2025 has grown into a powerful monthly outreach on one of Durban’s busiest streets. 635Church has spent the past eight months hosting open-air worship gatherings on Florida Road, drawing believers, passersby, and curious onlookers into moments of prayer, worship, and ministry.
The vision for Florida Road Street Worship was birthed after Pastor Shane Pe, founder and visionary of 635Church, sensed God leading his family into a new season of ministry in August 2025. After serving for years in a well-known Durban ministry, Pastor Shane and his family stepped out in faith, believing the Lord was calling them into something new.
Around that same time, Pastor Shane and his close friend, Pastor Deshan, were invited to pray near the site outside Wish Restaurant where South African rapper AKA was tragically shot in 2023. The two pastors spent time praying with staff members and ministering on the street. Shortly afterwards, Pastor Shane says God placed a vision in his heart for worship gatherings on Florida Road.
Since then, the outreach has continued every month, with the team already looking ahead to a special one-year anniversary celebration in September 2026.
What began with around 20 people has steadily grown over the months. The worship gatherings are led largely by Pastor Shane’s own family and close ministry team. His daughter Shiann serves as a worship leader, while his sons Tevin and Ethan assist on drums and saxophone. His wife Rene’ helps with livestreaming, alongside other volunteers who assist with photography, sound, lighting, hospitality, and worship.
According to the team, the gatherings have become a place where people from many different backgrounds encounter the love of God. They have seen young people recommit their lives to Christ, families restored, and people stopping in the street for prayer and ministry.
One testimony shared by the ministry involved a young woman who had struggled to walk for years due to a severe condition affecting her foot. After receiving prayer during one of the worship gatherings, the team says she experienced supernatural healing.
During their recent Good Friday outreach, volunteers distributed 250 communion cups on Florida Road while praying with members of the public and sharing the Gospel. Several people reportedly gave their lives to Jesus during the event.
The ministry says people from all walks of life have engaged with the gatherings, including members of the Muslim community who stopped to watch and record the worship sessions, as well as others simply drawn by the atmosphere of praise and prayer.
Pastor Shane says the heart behind the outreach is simple – reaching souls and seeing families restored through the love and power of Jesus Christ.
