Within each and every one of us is the potential to make an impact in life. Many among us live and die without making any positive contribution to this world. When that happens, we would have robbed the world of contributions that could have made it a better place. History is full of people who are infamous for being villains and famous for being heroes. The heroes have their special place in history because they lived to make an impact that outlived themselves.
Becoming the solution
Devoted citizens are everyday ordinary people who look at the world with different eyes. They look at opportunities where others see challenges. They look for solutions, and over and above looking for solutions, they become the solution.
It’s not a perfect road
In the process of making a difference in the lives of others, I am mindful of the fact that being a devoted citizen does not mean we are perfect. As devoted citizens, we are not better than the rest, we are ordinary citizens who love people and our country and believe that it can be better than what it is right now.
This movement speaks to a prosperous South Africa with people who:
• have chosen to care,
• have chosen to try,
• have chosen to stay,
• have chosen to dream,
• have chosen to believe, and
• have chosen to hope!
Let’s make history together
Devoted citizens believe that from the ashes of despair, a beautiful nation can arise. We are looking at this nation not just as it is, but also as it can be. It will not be easy – but it is possible. It’s not enough to celebrate other people’s success stories, we must be inspired to make our own. For us to do that we need each other. Let us work together to build our beautiful nation.
Devoted citizens write their own obituary
Live your life with the end in mind and the present in sight. Be a hero to someone by making a difference in their life. If you are a father, be the example of a man that your sons dream of emulating and your daughters dream of having as a spouse.
What is your legacy?
The only time you should lay your hand on your wife is when you are touching her forehead feeling her temperature if she complains about a headache. A real man does not use his physical energy to beat up his spouse or abuse his children. Instead, he uses his energy to protect and provide for his family. How will you be remembered in your memorial service when you are gone? If you do not create good memories, then you do not deserve a memorial service. How will history remember you?
As a devoted citizen, you have an opportunity to make history, therefore, make it!
