Actress Candace Cameron Bure has expressed optimism about a cultural shift where people feel more comfortable sharing their faith without fear of being canceled. Speaking at the Movieguide Awards, Bure stated, “I feel like people are just a little less afraid of being canceled now that they can share their faith openly or whatever their opinions are [even] if they’re not congruent with some other people’s opinions.” She described this trend as encouraging, adding, “I love seeing this in our country, and I’m hopeful. I’m very hopeful.”
Bure has been a vocal advocate for faith-based content in Hollywood, frequently discussing her Christian beliefs. In 2022, she faced criticism after announcing her departure from the Hallmark Channel to join the Great American Family network. She explained that the network’s content would “keep traditional marriage at the core,” a stance that led to backlash from progressive activists. Her comments came as Hallmark increased its inclusion of LGBTQ-themed storylines.
Despite facing calls for cancellation, Bure remained steadfast in her convictions. “Cancel Culture is very real. And they were trying to cancel me,” she said, reflecting on the controversy. She emphasized that remaining firm in her faith helped her navigate the criticism, citing a Bible verse about finding joy in the midst of trials.
As an executive at Great American Family, Bure continues to produce and star in films that align with her values. She sees the growing openness about faith in public discourse as a positive sign, believing that more people are standing firm in their beliefs. “You have to know who you are deep down, and what you stand for, because the world will test you,” she said.
Her experience highlights the ongoing tensions between Hollywood’s progressive push and those who advocate for traditional values. However, Bure’s comments suggest that faith-based perspectives are finding renewed confidence in public discussions, with more people willing to embrace and express their beliefs despite opposition.
