Christians in Cape Town and surrounding areas are being encouraged to take part in International Life Chain Sunday on 4 October 2026, as Christians around the world are called to publicly stand in support of unborn life.

The Cape Town Life Chain will take place at 2:00pm at the entrance to the Waterfront, opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Buitengracht Street, downtown Cape Town.

The initiative is being held under the theme, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves”, from Proverbs 31:8. Organisers are encouraging people to mobilise their friends and family and to join a Life Chain in their city as a public expression of concern for unborn children.

Africa Christian Action has been organising Life Chains since 1992, with the events taking place on the first Sunday of October each year. The organisers’ message is that life begins at conception. The invitation questions why the presence of a brainwave is not accepted as confirmation of life if the absence of a brainwave is considered a sign of death.

It also challenges the idea that birth is the point at which a non-human becomes a person, arguing instead that birth is a change of environment for a life that began many months earlier.

The invitation states that every abortion stops a beating heart and ends a brainwave and describes abortion as “the murder of a helpless and innocent human being”.

The organisers also refer to Psalm 106:37-38, which speaks of the sacrifice of sons and daughters and the shedding of innocent blood. The passage is included in the invitation as part of its call to recognise and protect innocent human life.

Another Scripture passage highlighted is Proverbs 24:10-12, which calls on people to rescue those being led away to death and to hold back those staggering towards slaughter. The passage also challenges those who claim that they were unaware of what was happening, asking whether God, who weighs the heart, would not perceive the truth and hold each person accountable.

Those in or near Cape Town are being encouraged to make time to participate in the Life Chain and to invite friends and family to join them. The organisers say the event provides an opportunity for Christians to stand publicly for unborn life and to speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves.
