How do you access the gospel if you cannot read? How do you hear the Good News when Islam dominates your daily life, and extremists threaten to destroy anyone who opposes their religion?
The answer: radio.
FEBA Radio broadcasts the gospel in Mali, Niger, Chad, and Sudan – countries where Islam dominates the religious landscape. With the exception of Sudan, the average adult literacy rate is 30%, and some people only understand their own dialect. Poverty is rife and violent conflict is commonplace.
Hearts are hungry for the hope that only Christ can give, and radio can bring it to them safely and effectively, wherever they are. Air waves can travel where missionaries cannot.
This year, FEBA Radio South Africa’s Christmas Radio Project is raising funds to supply radios and audio Bibles to listeners in the Sahel. Each radio is solar powered but can also be wound up, or charged using electricity, and is tuned to the frequency of the local FEBA station. Audio Bibles contain the Bible in local languages, along with content to help listeners understand the gospel and other themes in the Scriptures. Reaching out to people in their own language opens their hearts in new ways.
“I was a Muslim, and I used to pray like them,” a listener in Chad shared recently, “but since I started listening to RACE FM (FEBA Chad), I converted to Christianity, thanks to the pastor’s preaching in Gabri, my mother tongue.”
