Pastor Phindile Mathebula, known by many as Victorious Phindi, is the author of ‘God’s Voice Over Silence’ and ‘Dealing with Grief and Loss’. Over more than a decade she has dedicated her life to the upliftment and empowerment of women. This stems from her upbringing in Tembisa which exposed her to the plight of poverty, orphans, and widows, moulding her to become resilient and devoted to a life of service.
“The fact that I was surrounded by poverty and would at times see neighbours coming to my home to borrow daily necessities such as sugar and maize meal, contributed positively to the person I am today. It helped me develop myself so that I could help my community.”
Prior to becoming a pastor, Mathebula worked in the financial services and insurance sector when she realised that she had a greater calling. In 2001, along with her high school sweetheart who became her husband, Reverend Siphiwe Christopher Mathebula, they founded Hope Restoration Ministries (HRM). Soon after she devoted herself to answering her calling and became a pastor.
She sees herself as a vessel of hope and love for her community and draws inspiration from her mother who raised her and her siblings. This fuelled her life’s mission to restore the dignity of women through the ministry and create a platform for women to self-actualize, equipping them with important life skills and a strong support structure.
“My desire is to see women of all ages living productive and purposeful lives regardless of where they come from. If many women continue to suffer and to see themselves as second-class citizens, then my work is far from being done.”
A core part of the work pastor Mathebula undertakes in HRM is centered around projects that focus on women’s empowerment. In partnership with the People Matter Foundation, HRM has recently established a bakery and sewing school for women that trains them to run their own businesses, helping them generate an income for themselves. HRM has also built homes for older single mothers, providing food and sanitary packs to less fortunate families on a weekly basis.
In addition to these feats, pastor Mathebula established HRM’s Victorious Women’s Ministry which has become a platform for mentorship with the mission of contributing to communities and society, reaching out to and supporting women of all ages as they endeavor to improve their own lives.
She will be leading the 12th Annual Victorious Women Conference on 25 and 26 August 2023 at the Sun Bet Arena, Time Square, under the theme ‘Beauty for Ashes’. Delegates from South Africa and across the continent will be empowered on an array of issues that affect women.
“Beauty for Ashes is all about God exchanging our painful experiences for HIS blessings. It’s about using your pain and brokenness to help others to stand.”
Guest speakers for this event include Advocate Emily Zim and Pastor Candice Chicken, as well as performances from leading gospel artists Lebo Sekgobela, Dr Tumi and Hlengiwe Mhlaba.
