The Christian community is reeling after the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, 31, father, husband, and founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk was gunned down yesterday during a campus event at Utah Valley University, where he was speaking to students as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”

According to witnesses, a single shot struck Kirk while he addressed the crowd at an outdoor forum. Chaos followed as students and staff scrambled for safety. He was rushed to hospital, but his death was later confirmed. Former President Donald Trump shared the heartbreaking news, paying tribute to Kirk as a “warrior for truth and freedom.”

Authorities have said the attack was targeted. Early reports indicate the shot came from a rooftop several hundred metres away. Although two men were initially questioned, the FBI has not confirmed an arrest. The investigation is ongoing, and security has been stepped up at similar events nationwide.

Kirk leaves behind his wife and two young children. He was known not only for his bold political voice but also for his faith in Jesus Christ, often emphasising the need for spiritual renewal in America. His life and message influenced thousands of young believers and mobilised many to stand for biblical truth in the public square.

Tributes continue to pour in from church leaders, politicians, and supporters around the world. American flags have been ordered to fly at half mast for the rest of the week in his honour.

How we can pray

  • For his family – that his wife and kids will be surrounded by the comfort and presence of the Lord (Psalm 34:18).
  • For the Church – that believers will respond not with fear or hatred, but with courage, unity, and hope in Christ.
  • For America – that this moment of tragedy will awaken hearts to the Gospel and bring reconciliation in a divided nation.
  • For justice – that the truth will be revealed, the perpetrator brought to account, and that peace will prevail over violence.
