Christians Gather Around South Africa To Protest Abortion

The Abortion Holocaust
We mobilised eight teams to make a stand for life at busy traffic intersections throughout the Cape peninsula on Monday. The 1^st of February 2021 marks the 24^th anniversary of the legalisation of abortion on demand in South Africa. Every year we lose more pre-born babies to abortion than the combined death tolls of crime and car accidents. Since 1 February 1997, over 1,700,000 babies have been killed in South Africa, by abortion, mostly with taxpayers’ money.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves …speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9

March for Life 2021 Prohibited
Every year, on the anniversary of this disastrous legislation, Africa Christian Action has organised the March for Life to parliament, followed with a Prayer vigil and Repentance service outside the gates of parliament. This year, the authorities refused us permission to march to parliament, or to have any other protest gathering under level 3 lockdown restrictions.

Plan B
So, we organised groups of under 15 people per venue, to stand with pro-life banners and placards at traffic intersections and distribute evangelistic pro-life literature to passing motorists and pedestrians. Teams made stands for life at the Buitengracht Street entrance to the Waterfront, facing the Cape Town International Conference Centre, at Klipfontein Rd, Liesbeck Parkway, at the Rondebosch Fountain, outside Cape Gate in the Northern suburbs, at Table View and in Durbanville.

“Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words…” Proverbs 1:20-22

Mass Literature Distribution
All our teams reported receiving overwhelming positive feedback from people driving past. Most were happy to take the pro-life and evangelistic literature we were offering. Thousands of pro-life leaflets, Abortion – The Facts, Considering Abortion and World Missionary Press Gospel booklets were distributed at these Stand for Life outreaches. In addition to distributing at traffic lights, we also walked around taxi ranks and shopping centres distributing leaflets and Gospel booklets.

Confronting Complacency and Complicity
Some of the banners and placards declared: Warning: Abortion will kill your child and cause you emotional harm; 1,700,000 babies aborted in South Africa since 1997; “Now Choose Life so that you and your children may live” Deuteronomy 30:19; Babies Lives Matter; Compassion is always an option; Abortion stops a beating heart; Adoption – the Loving Option; Abortion is a national sin – God will not bless a nation that destroys its children; In God’s court, Abortion is murder; Protect pro-life medics from prosecution and Choose Life! You can view pictures of some of the Stand for Life outreaches on the Africa Christian Action Facebook page, click here.

“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Deliver those who are drawn toward death and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” Proverbs 24:10-12
