The good news coming from the Western Cape High Court is that the five prospective opponents of the “Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce’s” (SWEAT) application to decriminalise the entire sex-industry in SA – were allowed to intervene in the case.

On 1 and 2 Sept, the High Court heard arguments from legal teams of five prospective opponents to the court bid to decriminalise prostitution in SA, as well as 16 prospective friends of the court (amici curiae), on becoming parties/participants in the case.

“Cause for Justice” will oppose SWEAT’s High Court application that demands the court re-examine the constitutionality of the laws that criminalise prostitution. “Cause for Justice” and others intervened because the SA government refused to defend the country’s laws.

Thankfully, “Survivor Exit Foundation” – the only survivor led organization – was also admitted as amici curiae (friend of the court). A total of 16 amici were admitted by Judge Le Grange. Two organizations oppose full decriminalisation and fourteen are in favour.

The organizations opposing the application must file their answering affidavits (the factual basis of their opposition) by 13 October 2025. The High Court is set to hear SWEAT’s main application 18 – 20 May 2026. This is one of the most critical cases in SA’s democracy.

Please commit to pray for “Cause for Justice” and other respondents and amici opposing SWEAT’s application to legalise the sale and purchase of sexual services in SA including legitimising pimps, brothel owners and crime syndicates that exploit vulnerable women.

In 2009, the Dept of Justice commissioned the SA Law Reform Commission (SALRC) to conduct research on the sex-industry to inform law reform on prostitution. Following a comprehensive 9-year investigation, the SALRC released its Final Report on Prostitution Law Reform and strongly recommended against decriminalised prostitution in South Africa.

Family Policy Institute’s submission was referenced more than 50 times in the SALRC Final Report. The Report agreed with many of FPI’s assertions including that prostitution is controlled by organized crime and decriminalisation does not benefit the women trapped in sexual slavery. Poverty, unemployment and abuse were also cited as primary factors.

The then ANC majority government dismissed the factual findings of the SALRC study because it conflicted with its foreign influenced sexual rights agenda. The ANC tabled the “Sexual Offences Amendment Bill” in Parliament in 2022. The Bill completely ignored the warnings in the SALRC Report by seeking to abolish the laws that criminalise prostitution.

The “Sexual Offences Amendment Bill” stalled when state law advisors warned the Bill would not pass constitutional scrutiny because it legalized all aspects of the sex-industry without regulation. As a result of the Bill’s failure, the foreign-funded pro-prostitution group, SWEAT filed a High Court application to achieve what the ANC Bill failed to accomplish.

The ANC is influenced by UN agencies and special-interest foreign groups – not SA citizens. That’s why it declined to defend its own laws in the SWEAT application. The ANC led Government of National Unity (GNU) does not act in the best interest of SA citizens.

“Cause for Justice” and the other respondents to SWEAT’s High Court application are compelled to defend what the SA government has failed to defend – that is, the safety and dignity of women (and children) in SA. This court case will determine whether women can legally be viewed as commodities for sale in SA. The “human rights” argument is a hoax.

Research proves prostitution is violence against women. The sex-industry is never regulated in legalized prostitution. In fact, the sex slave-trade expands considerably when it is legalized. A larger illegal sex-industry often exists alongside the “regulated” industry.

Legalized prostitution is therefore a gift to pimps, brothel owners and crime syndicates. The links between organized crime and prostitution is never broken even when legalized. Research also indicates, child prostitution increases where adult prostitution is legalized.

Significantly, it is the responsibility of Bible-believing Christians to speak up and act to protect vulnerable women and children from exploitation. South Africa is misgoverned by an organized crime syndicate. The ANC formulates public policy for its own benefit.

Please pray for wisdom and provision for the groups opposing SWEAT’s High Court application. Make your opposition known by speaking up on social media and other media platforms. And financially support the groups making a stand for truth and justice in SA.

  1. Best to kick the criminal ANC out of power. Bet that political patronage is part of the nexus of prostitution, criminal syndicates and corrupt police officers.
