Yvonne*, a first-time traveller with Open Doors, recounts her experience of visiting a refugee church in Turkey:
“It felt like a piece of heaven to be there. I was asked to pray with Marcia and her son, Michael, who is the same age as me. He is on dialysis and very ill. It was as if a light was suddenly switched on inside my soul. This was their request for prayer, but it was also my story. Twelve years ago, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, was on dialysis and lived to tell the tale after receiving a kidney transplant.
“We spoke about Michael’s struggle with the dialysis, and how he is unable to get a transplant and much-needed medical help because of his refugee status. We talked about our many shared experiences and prayed and cried together. It was a divine appointment that the Lord has been preparing me for during the past twelve years, and now I could place this brother’s burden with him before the Cross.
“I walked away humbled by the meeting that the Holy Spirit had in store for me halfway across the world and in awe of how He uses our past pain to encourage and give hope to fellow believers.”
