A group of Cape Town elders received an early Mother’s Day tribute on Friday, as Shincheonji Volunteers hosted a quiet morning of games and intergenerational bonding at the Cape Town Elderly Home.
Held under the theme “With Love, From One Generation to Another,” the event saw volunteers engaging residents through bingo, card games, and shared stories to forge a deep connection across decades.
“Today was not a performance,” said Nic Ngcobo, director of Shincheonji Volunteers. “It was about taking time to sit down, listen, and honour the people who paved the way for us.”
One volunteer said the visit was motivated by a simple message: gratitude. “Many mothers here gave everything to raise families and build communities. We’re here to thank you and return even a small portion of that care.”
The hour-long programme forms part of Shincheonji Volunteers’ broader commitment to social support and peace-building through acts of service.
“Being a positive, heavenly influence isn’t only about scale, it’s also about consistency,” Ngcobo added. “Acts of service, even small ones, help shape a society where people are seen, heard, and valued.”
Shincheonji Volunteers says its focus on generational care will continue beyond calendar events like Mother’s Day, with similar outreach initiatives planned throughout the year.
