FEBA listeners in the Mangochi district, Malawi, were recently attacked by fellow villagers.

On 18 May, a female listener was in her home when a man came to warn her that she was about to be kicked out of the village because of her faith in Jesus Christ. Later that day, the village chief arrived to tell her, “You Christians are not allowed in my village. We don’t want Christians here. We will demolish your house.”

The woman refused to heed the warning. She built the house herself and now lives there with her three children.

The following day, the chief returned with a large group of Muslims and threatened to kill her if she did not vacate the premises so that they could destroy her house. Again, she refused. As long as she lived, she told them, they would not destroy her house, nor would she stop following Christ.

The chief and his followers sought help from the police to chase the woman from the village. They dragged along the leader of the local FEBA listener club to be interrogated about the listener club’s activities, but the police refused to assist them. When they returned the following day, however, the police took the chief’s side.

At the time of writing, FEBA Malawi director Amos Phiri was in contact with authorities in an effort to settle the matter peacefully. He said, “This woman is extremely brave. She insists that she will remain in Christ. The listeners in that village are begging for prayers, that they would be allowed to live peacefully in the area.” For more information about FEBA and its work, please visit www.febaradio.co.za
