“We make Christ’s love felt in the lives of people through radio and through what we call ‘on-the-ground activities,’” says FEBA Philippines director, Luis M. Castillo. “These are tangible ways of reaching out to the listeners and to more people, even beyond the broadcasts.”

Good News Radio, FEBA Philippines’ station in Davao on the southern island of Mindanao, spares no effort in bringing Christ to marginalised communities in practical ways. On 13 June, Good News Radio partnered with the 27th Infantry Battalion of the Philippines Army and other organisations for a health and wellness outreach in the Paquibato district.

More than 600 families participated in the event, where they could receive medical check-ups, dental care, medicines, and blood tests, as well as food packs, free haircuts, counselling, and Bibles. The event forms part of Good News Radio’s “Because I Care” campaign, which focuses especially on marginalised communities in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAS). In addition to the 27th Infantry Battalion, they also frequently work with Davao City’s Social Welfare and Development Office, participating in training sessions, conducting prayer meetings at local churches, and distributing food packs.

Partnerships are vital, says Director Castillo. “In cultivating a close connection, we recognise the significance of building and honing partnerships, acknowledging that we cannot do the work alone.”

Captain Eddie Rey B. Navales considers these initiatives an important step in fostering good relationships between marginalised communities and authorities. “In our partnership with FEBA’s Good News Radio, we have been able to help many, especially in places like this … We truly need partners like Good News Radio to provide basic services such as food packs and other things that people need. This way, we can make the community feel and see that we are here, that the government and non-government organisations are working together to deliver basic services.”
