On Saturday, 20th November, the Global Fund For Jesus held its 2021 NGO Awards ceremony where it awarded 20 grants to NGOs and handed over gift hampers to indigent families in Gauteng.
The Global Fund For Jesus (GFFJ) is a South African based global organisation and universal platform that works to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth by focusing on the alleviation of global and social justice issues. It was conceived after the founder and Chairman of Sakhumnotho Group Holdings, Sipho Mseleku, had a vision while visiting Jerusalem in 2007. The vision from God mandated the establishment of a Global Fund For Jesus, repeating the name 3 times. The goal of the Fund is to address poverty and uplift vulnerable and disadvantaged populations through education, health, food security, job creation, economic empowerment and entrepreneurship projects.
The State of Nations, globally, is marked by stark health, education and development inequalities, post COVID-19 economic recession, growing unemployment and poverty levels, and more. This negatively impacts the wellbeing of children, families, communities and populations worldwide. To assist, the Fund launched the Thanksgiving Gift Hamper Awards in 2017 aimed at alleviating the immediate suffering of disadvantaged South Africans. It also launched the NGO Awards which aims to aid Non-Government Organisations from around the world in their meaningful work through the awarding of 20 x R100 000 grants; which amounts to a total distribution of R 2 million to deserving NGOs.
The ceremony on Saturday 20th November, at Sakhumnotho’s corporate headquarters in Houghton announced the 20 grant winners. Amongst them was Re Na Le Lona Children’s Centre which aims to use the grant to provide school uniforms for their children as well as food hampers, as well as Jumping Kids which provides young amputees with prostheses.
“It is a huge honour for Jumping Kids to receive this grant. The grant will be utilised to empower even more kids who have lost their legs, enabling them to go to school and enjoy normal development.” Johan Sayers, Founder Jumping Kids.
The ceremony also saw the handing over of the final 500 hampers, comprising 240 food hampers and 260 school uniforms, to underprivileged families in Gauteng. Amongst the list of beneficiaries, 100 seed hampers were also distributed to schools and other organizations that grow community gardens for sustainable food distribution. Over the last month, the Fund has distributed 2 100 hampers to disadvantaged families across four provinces, namely Mpumalanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Limpopo and Gauteng.
Gauteng was the last stop, with hampers to the other three provinces having been delivered on the 13th of October, the 30th of October and the 6th of November respectively.
“Jesus walks amongst us and we, as a Fund that is dedicated to emulating him in action and thought, find ourselves called upon to urgently address the tragically high levels of poverty, as well as offer assistance to organisations already doing such amazing work. We are honoured that we are in a position to help individual families and NGOs feel the power of Jesus Christ.” Hugo Van Niekerk, Head: Resource Mobilisation, Global Fund For Jesus.
