For those sensing a call to minister to patients in South Africa’s public hospitals, a unique opportunity is now available – but time is running out. Registrations for the new Hospital Chaplaincy Programme close on 20 February 2026.

HospiVision, a non-profit organisation that has been providing spiritual care and counselling in public hospitals since 1997, has partnered with the Excel Theological Training Academy (ETTA) to offer this comprehensive two-year, full-time course. Graduates will receive an Occupational Certificate: Social Counselling Worker, a nationally recognised qualification registered with SAQA at NQF Level 5.

This SAQA registration is significant. It means graduates will hold a formal, quality-assured credential that equips them not only spiritually but professionally, opening doors to serve in clinical environments with recognised qualifications.

The programme blends theoretical learning with supervised practical hours in Pretoria hospitals, with all training taking place in person at HospiVision’s Training Centre at Tshwane District Hospital. Students will develop the pastoral, spiritual, and counselling skills necessary for high-quality patient support, a ministry that has never been more needed.

The development of this programme was made possible through the support of Grant 63219 from the John Templeton Foundation, enabling HospiVision to create a training pathway that meets both academic standards and the spiritual demands of hospital ministry.

The total course cost is R27,000 over two years (excluding final assessment fees), with tuition payable to ETTA. Applicants need a matric certificate, though relevant prior learning may be recognised.

Could God be calling you to bring hope to those facing illness, fear, and uncertainty? Don’t let this opportunity pass.
