When ISIS invaded Qeraqosh in 2014, Raid was forced to flee his home with his wife and two-year-old son. For the next three years, Raid and his family lived in a shopping mall that was converted into a refugee camp. During this time, the family could not work and they spent nearly all of their savings to survive.
In 2017, when it was safe, Raid returned to Qeraqosh with his family. The situation in Qeraqosh was not much better than it had been in the refugee camp though, as there was no work available. To afford to feed his family, Raid hoped to reopen his ceramic shop. However, with no tools or money, it was unlikely.
ICC heard about his need and provided the tools necessary to restart his business. With his new equipment, and Raid’s years of experience, he was able to pick up where he left off before ISIS invaded. Now, he can provide for his family once again as they begin rebuilding their lives.
