“Comfort ye, comfort ye My People” (Isa 40:1-2) was the mandate given to the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) in 1980 when it was established. For over 40 years, the ICEJ has embarked upon a journey of bringing comfort to Israel. This journey has involved practical actions that have ministered to our Jewish family.
Christians making an impact
Christians – through the ICEJ – have funded over 187 000 flights for Jews to come home from the nations, fulfilling numerous prophesies which speak about their return in the latter days! Around 180 Holocaust survivors have also been cared for in the three dedicated survivor homes in Haifa. Since the traumatic attack of October 7th, the ICEJ has been involved with crisis care where needed.
1. Healing spaces for youth
ICEJ is providing essential aid and emotional support to Israelis impacted by the Hamas attacks. This includes safe spaces and therapeutic environments where Israeli Jewish and Arab youth can heal and reconnect.
2. Provided essential medical transportation
In 2024, the ICEJ expanded its humanitarian efforts in Israel by donating a fully equipped ambulance to serve disabled children. This specialised vehicle provides essential medical transportation, ensuring that children with special needs can access vital services and support.
3. Bomb shelters and lifesaving devices
Around 280 bomb shelters, donated over the years, continue to protect civilians from rocket attacks. First responder communication devices, donated before the 7th October attack, are estimated to have potentially saved up to 3000 lives on the day of the Hamas attack. Ongoing aid, such as food vouchers, clothing, and medical equipment, is provided where needed.
4. Accelerating Aliyah amidst war
The process of Aliyah (immigrating to Israel) continued at an accelerated pace in 2024, despite the ongoing challenges of war. By the end of the year, over 28 000 new immigrants (Olim) had moved to Israel, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to return to their ancestral homeland. This included 254 individuals from South Africa. Through the support of Christians via the ICEJ, 5124 Jewish individuals from various countries were able to make Aliyah and begin new lives in Israel this past year.
Feast of Tabernacles 2024
Despite ongoing security concerns, ICEJ hosted its annual Feast of Tabernacles event in Israel with a message of solidarity and remembrance. The event included a ceremony in the Negev to honour the victims of the attacks. Pilgrims participated in worship and heard testimonies from hostage families, security experts, and community leaders, showcasing ICEJ’s commitment to support Israel spiritually and practically during its time of need. The South African contingent was the 2nd largest, after Germany. Clearly the ANC’s stance towards Israel is not shared by the majority of South Africans!
