God’s church in Africa needs more faithful leaders! We live in challenging times: economic uncertainty, increasing immorality, and much corruption, with many false teachers and fake Christians. True spiritual leaders are urgently needed.
The Mukhanyo Story
Mukhanyo’s mission is to serve God’s church in Africa by equipping pastors and Christians for faithful ministry. We train spiritual leaders, people of integrity and passion, who love God and His church, and who are equipped to teach His Word accurately. We pray God will use our feeble efforts to work mighty wonders by His Spirit. Mukhanyo invests in future spiritual leaders. Generous donations from faithful Christians make it possible for us to offer quality accredited programmes with low tuition costs. The Mukhanyo’s story includes the personal stories of many students who are now serving God’s church, each in their own ways and areas.
Given Xhaba’s Story
“Before I started at Mukhanyo,” says Pastor Xhaba, “I was discouraged by some people telling me that Mukhanyo does not believe in the Holy Spirit. But I found out that this is not true; the college believes in and teaches about the Holy Spirit and His work in a life of a believer.” Mr Xhaba recently finished his BTh Honours degree with Mukhanyo. He now tutors a Mukhanyo distance class in Mpumalanga. He encourages potential students to study at Mukhanyo in order to “be well prepared for ministry.” He says this with confidence because he feels strongly that the curriculum covers everything one needs for ministry.
Siyanda Mbatha’s Story
Siyanda started studying for the Bachelor of Theology degree in 2020. He is a high school teacher in Umlazi, near Durban. He grew up in a Zulu family which practised African Traditional Religion, including ancestor worship and the use of traditional healers. After his father died, Siyanda began to question Christianity. At first, he saw Christianity as a colonial religion without any relevance to Africans. But he started to read the Bible from Genesis. It was during this period that he received Christ at age 17. Siyanda started with a diploma in 2019. Studying at Mukhanyo exposed him to the doctrines of grace and biblical theology, which had a massive impact on his faith. He now attends Covenant Waterfall Presbyterian Church and would like one day to plant a biblically faithful church in the Durban area.
Herens Nkoana’s Story
By God’s grace, Rev. Nkoana planted three churches while studying at Mukhanyo, and he hopes to plant three more in the next ten years. He is the pastor of the Reformed Church Ramotse near Hammanskraal, some 45 km north of Pretoria. Rev. Nkoana started his studies in 1999, first for a Diploma in Theology, and then completing the BTh Degree in 2008. With enthusiasm as a well-equipped evangelist, he emphasises that if you really trust the Lord, He always makes many things possible, regardless of how difficult the situation is. Everyone in the Hammanskraal area knows him as Oupa. At 45 years, he doesn’t look that old, but he cares for his community as a spiritual father figure, knowing everyone, always listening to young and old, often evangelising, motivating people and showing the way to Christ.
Deng Garang’s Story
Coming from South Sudan, Rev. Deng completed the BTh Degree and now serves a church in Khor Williang, Juba. Rev. Deng studied at Mukhanyo’s KwaMhlanga campus, sponsored by a church in the USA. He says that Mukhanyo taught both his head and heart to love God. He is thankful for the quality education and spiritual formation. It reminds him of what Aristotle stated: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” Rev. Deng is “thrilled, asking the Almighty God to keep the Mukhanyo ministry going.” He now preaches God’s Word with confidence, well prepared and exegetically sound. He also serves as the inspector of education and finance secretary at Juba Classic in South Sudan.
Carl Pohl’s Story
Ten years ago, a good friend told Mr Pohl about Mukhanyo’s distance learning programme at their local church. He had wanted to study theology, but until that time he could not for various reasons. Mr Pohl is middle-aged, a husband and a father of five children. He has many responsibilities, so studying part-time with Mukhanyo was the ideal opportunity for him to pursue an accredited qualification, especially with classes close to his home on Saturday mornings. “The study has given me a deeper, wider, and true knowledge of the Christian faith. Since I started studying with Mukhanyo, my knowledge and application of Scripture has tremendously improved and I can now face any situation with confidence and ease. This has also made my relationship with God much deeper and closer.”
Why do future church leaders study at Mukhanyo?
Here are the results of a recent survey:
• “We want to know more about the Bible and how to understand it.”
• “We want to learn how to properly interpret and understand the Scriptures.”
• “We feel the need for spiritual growth.”
• “We want to learn how to teach and preach
God’s Word correctly.”
Many church leaders trust Mukhanyo to teach the whole Bible accurately. There are practical reasons as well: very affordable tuition fees, flexible and accessible learning times, fully accredited programmes, and practical and relevant curricula. Whatever the reason, Mukhanyo is thankful for the opportunity to invest in future spiritual leaders. We are also grateful for faithful African donors who make studying at Mukhanyo affordable and accessible for all students.
