This heading: “GBV-the second pandemic’ written by Errol Naidoo of the Family Policy Institute in JOY needs more comment:
President Ramaphosa who made this comment that GBV is the second pandemic and Errol goes onto to say:
“The ANC government has failed women and children (and society in general) miserably, despite claiming to make GBV a “national priority.”
Errol is 100% correct and President Ramaphosa need look no further, rather he needs, wide open eyes and open ears as it is right UNDER HIS NOSE!!
We as Christians know that it really is a ‘change of heart’ issue that is the core of the problem as people need Jesus to save them so they can see the light of the gospel and accept him as their Lord and Saviour, but need to address it from another angle by looking at it from the worldly perspective.
This ‘pandemic’ of GBV will not stop and no amount of money, counselling, women’s month (which is a joke!) will not solve it, not whilst GBV is OPENLY and habitually exposed on our TV screens 24/7. SABC is a State Owned Entity and they are the culprits promoting GBV themselves – hypocrites
Need I say more! as this is one of the highest causes, if not the MAIN cause the SABC and other channels are promoting GBV! ETV warns viewers beforehand with a notice saying: Viewer sensitive, this programme contains GBV and violence’ etc –hypocrites!
I must ask the question why government has allowed this on the one hand, and then condemns it on the other-duh! Are you kidding me, or are you just plain stupid! Turning a blind eye and a deaf ear is all they do!
Mr. Maurice Smithers Director of the SAAPA (Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance) was on a SABC TV Sunday morning show called “Media & Society” or along those lines for a discussion on the effects of alcohol and GBV in the media.
Also on the panel was a writer for soapies and her input nailed it and perfectly described the root cause by saying:
As creatives, they often raise exactly the same question with their producers. They would prefer not to revert to prescribed representations on TV which focus on violence, drinking, intrigue, feuds etc,
However, she said they continually get told that “that’s what audiences wants”. She doesn’t agree.
She thinks there are many other themes that would appeal to the public, many other stories that could be told that don’t have to be formulaic. But the writers aren’t the final arbiters. They have to write what the producers want, otherwise the producers will find writers who will be more compliant.
The TV Soapies, movies shown on SABC, Open View, eNCA, etc, all show EXTREME violence towards their partners, wives and even some children, using batons, fists, guns, knives, whatever, and as said above, viewers enjoy watching blood splattered all over, and women traumatised, bruised and battered. Bible verse: Isaiah 5:20 – “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil”.
Is it no wonder we have an abundance of EXTREME violence, murders, beatings, shootings, & killings 24/7 all over South Africa as programme after programme is repeated over and over again, with millions of people out of work this is all they seem to consume on a daily basis – garbage in, and ACTIONS out!. Bible Verse: Psalm 101:3 – “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes”
Alcohol consumption added to GBV increases the violence, and has reached epidemic proportions in South Africa. Most of the local soapies and movies shown on our TV channels shows alcohol used in abundance with drunk actors – Bible Verse: Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise – Ephesians 5:18 “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is depravity, but be filled with the Spirit”.
One particular soapie shown very early evening on SABC has been reported to the BCCSA on several occasions by the public because of violence and EXCESSIVE alcohol consumption especially amongst the younger adult actors, but all that happened was they were fined and they still continue with the extreme flow of alcohol in this local soapie. Bible verse: Romans 12:9. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good” Galatians 5:21 – “Envying’s, murders, drunkenness, revelling’s, and such like: of which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God”.
This is one of the many soapies and a typical example of what is allowed on our local TV screens early evenings!! Bible verse: Romans 12:9 “Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good”
Errol Naidoo said in a previous newsletter: “Evil prospers in South Africa because good men are doing nothing about it, are silent and inactive”.
