NEW INITIATIVE TO SAVE ACADEMIC FREEDOM AT UCT
Academic freedom has been under grave threat at UCT for quite some time, especially with the ongoing attempt to boycott Israeli academia. This boycott campaign is detrimental to the future of UCT and the students which attend.

It is for these very reasons, that we have decided to fight back against those who want to boycott. Instead, we are aiming to build bridges through engagement, exploiting that boycotting has the adverse effect of what they are ignorantly trying to achieve, therefore bringing Israel closer to the very heart of the university. We need your help!

We have recently launched a new and powerful initiative to promote positive co-operation between UCT and Weizmann Institute of Science, a top centre of higher learning, in Israel.

As of 2020, the Weizmann Institute has offered to host two deserving UCT science students an invaluable 3 month research internship at the institution. They have further pledged to match our contribution, if we raise the required amount of funds.

Therefore, we are asking you to help us raise R200 000, which will be matched, and then used to enrich the research capacity of the next generation of UCT scientists, and strengthen the ties between two great universities.

Click here to donate and help us win the fight.

A formal academic committee is being set up with representatives from the South African Zionist Federation (SAZF), University of Cape Town (UCT) and the Weizmann Institute of Science. They will be in charge of running the programme and all aspects thereof.
