The aQuellé’s KHULA team has done it again – they joined a local clean-up event to work in unison with the community to ensure a sustainable future. The clean-up happened at a wetland in the Thembeni Area, KwaDukuza, hosted by the Department of Forestry Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Umgeni Water, ILembe District and KwaDukuza Municipality.
Philisiwe Buthelezi, from the Department of DFFE, said, “We are at a beautiful wetland, but have the problem of dumping in the area. Since it is such a sensitive environmental area, we are trying to raise awareness by bringing in children from a local school and the community of Ward 12 to commemorate World Wetlands Day. The day has been a big success.”

The Its Khula to clean together campaign was initiated by aQuellé and a number of clean-up activities implemented have already impacted the environment positively. But there is a great need for South Africans to take part in community clean-ups and to remove litter from the environment. The country has a huge problem in this area and community clean-ups such as aQuellé’s It’s KHULA to clean up together shows that South Africans can work together towards a common goal.

Over more than three decades the community-based aQuellé has been instrumental in spreading the gospel through its community outreaches and humanitarian work. Clean-up campaigns are just one example of how it affected changes in uplifting communities.
