Charlie Kirk’s 22-year-old assassin, Tyler Robinson reportedly came from a conservative family. The FBI revealed Robinson was radicalised on the internet and university campus. He developed a murderous hatred for the 31-year-old husband and father of two because he dared to engage university and college students in civil debate. In a text message to his transgender partner, Robinson confessed he shot Kirk “because he had enough of his hatred”. Todd Wagner said, “Truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth.”
Indoctrinated in college
It is safe to assume Tyler Robinson’s parents failed to apply the Scriptural command in Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Research indicates that millions of children raised in self-identifying Christian homes are indoctrinated with the godless Marxist ideology when they attend university or college. They typically abandon the Christian values they were raised in and embrace a radical ideology rooted in an irrational hatred for the triune God of the Bible.
Breeding grounds for extremism
Cultural Marxist ideology dominates university and college campuses in the US and South Africa. These campuses are breeding grounds for anti-Christian and antisemitic extremism. Alarmingly, anti-family ideology has also crept into primary and high schools through curricula like “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” (CSE). Indoctrination has replaced education in US and South African schools. Charlie Kirk made significant inroads into these Marxist strongholds, boldly proclaiming the Gospel while engaging students. His message of faith, family, and freedom resonated with millions – and that’s essentially what got him killed. Kirk dared to venture into territory influenced almost exclusively by the political left.
Reviving the family
Charlie Kirk’s goal was to revive the American family. He encouraged young people to find fulfilment in serving God, getting married, and having children. His message conflicted with the left’s anti-family mantra. They define marriage between a man and woman as outdated and children as a burden. The ANC too advances the “sexual rights” agenda in its gender-neutral “Marriage Bill”. Marriage, the family, parental authority, and religious speech are relentlessly attacked by the left because its foundations are rooted in Biblical truth.
But why?
However, the question is why so many young people have embraced this godless ideology. The only rational answer is that parents, particularly fathers, are failing to instruct their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Grounding children in the knowledge of Christ has become crucial in a culture obsessed with rapidly changing fads. But what we teach our children is even more vital. Deception and distortions of the truth are not only prevalent in education, the media, and online, but tragically, in the Church as well. We are now living in the age “where people will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting to have their ears tickled, they accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires and turn away their ears from the truth and turn aside to myths” (2 Tim 4:3-4).
A post-Christian culture
Bible-believing Christians live in a post-Christian culture that rejects Biblical morality. The war on Christ is evident by the war on marriage, the war on the family, and the agenda to corrupt the young and impressionable minds of children. That’s why cultural Marxism is the dominant ideology on university, college, and school campuses. The goal is to capture and shape the minds of future generations with an ideology that is anti-God, anti-Christ, and anti-Scripture. Most parents ignore this threat that is currently overwhelming institutions of learning. But the question is: How do we effectively counter this assault on Biblical truth?
The dangers of woke ideology
The answer is: by boldly proclaiming the Gospel. The most effective way Bible-believing Christians counteract the lies of satan is by living out the truth of God’s Word authentically and teaching our children sound doctrine. Counterfeit Christianity is an effective deception strategy of the enemy. We hear a lot about the dangers of woke ideology but tend to ignore the equally devastating distortions of Scripture in our Churches. False teachers and the false gospels they peddle present a subtle but more grave threat to Scriptural integrity than the outrageous claims of cultural Marxism. Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32). But what truth was He referring to? The truth of Scripture as revealed in the 66 books of the Holy Bible – which alone is the inspired Word of God.
Equip your children, evangelise the youth
Consequently, the current dominance of Marxist ideology on university and college campuses is an indictment of the Christian Church’s failure to evangelise the youth. The Church is failing to fulfil its Biblical mandate to equip the saints for the work of the ministry because most of what is taught in the contemporary church is not Biblical. Man’s opinions have no power to transform lives. However, God’s power is in His Word. We must therefore return to the fundamentals of the faith: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone. More critically, we must teach our children to trust the inspired Scriptures alone, because in it, and in it alone, is the power of God to salvation.
