Every year thousands of children in South Africa are removed from their biological families and placed in foster care. The upcoming South African Foster Conference 2022 aims to equip, encourage and inspire families, professionals and organisations working in this sector.

Understanding the needs of children from hard-places is an important aspect of the foster care environment. A child is placed in foster care as a temporary arrangement after being removed from their biological family. In this context parents, social workers and other support services are often faced with a unique set of circumstances which they need to navigate through. The Foster Conference aims to provide insight, learnings and share experiences to equip families and professionals in foster care.

Foster Conference 2022 is a one day event that will be held from 8:30 – 16:00 on 20 August 2022. This year’s event has the exciting prospect of being available as a live in-person event as well as virtually via an online feed. Die Bron Willowbridge will play host to the in-person event while tickets for the virtual event will be available online in due course.

The speaker line-up for this event includes Najwa Taliep (Department of Social Development), Dr. Serahni Symington (Child and Adolescent Counsellor) and Quinton Adams (Educational Psychologist). In addition, there will also be various breakout sessions consisting of social workers, foster parents and the like.  CPD points will be on offer for social workers attending the in-person event (CPD application in progress).

Kin Culture and Badisa are two local child protection organisations coordinating the efforts surrounding the event and look forward to welcoming many interested individuals to this year’s event. Various ticket options will be available, ranging from virtual to in-person options. Group bookings for other organisations and groups will also be available.

Event registration opens on 29 June with early bird tickets starting at R150. Tickets for Foster Conference 2022 will be available in different packages, ranging from individual options for virtual and in-person to group options. Ticket sales will close on 15 August for the in-person event and 18 August for the virtual event.
