– Galatians 5:22-23
Most of us are familiar with this Scripture and recognise it as the “fruit of the Spirit” – nine characteristics that the Holy Spirit begins to build into every one of us once we invite Him to take over our lives. The demonstration of these attributes becomes the hallmark of the Lord’s presence in a believer’s life.
Focusing on long-suffering
I want to take the opportunity to concentrate on the virtue of long-suffering. How many of us are praying for the ability to suffer and endure persecution, mocking, baiting, illness, abuse, financial pressure, and more?
Enduring trials
I often encourage and counsel other believers, and many times I experience the absence of this particular characteristic. People want to give up on standing in faith and beg God to simply take the problem away rather than endure and overcome. We all experience trials of various sorts, and sometimes they continue for months or even years. It is therefore imperative to possess this quality – long-suffering.
God’s faithful promises
God knows our needs, He hears our prayers, and He will deliver us in His time. We all experience challenges that must be faced and overcome, and it is never pleasant to be tested. Yet, by God’s grace and His promises, we will overcome. It requires standing firm. He will never leave nor forsake you.
