Following the Dutch Reformed Church Synod’s decision, there was considerable reaction from congregations, church members, and ministers of the Dutch Reformed Church.

During the General Synod last year, it was decided that “space will be created within the Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) for same-sex relationships and unions” and that “opposing Scriptural views would be accommodated for the sake of unity within the Dutch Reformed Church.”

After numerous discussions and meetings, the stalemate between the two opinions on the synod’s decision could not be resolved. The question is where to now? What are the options open to congregations, ministers, and individual church members?

Moreleta Park Congregation is now facilitating a special summit on the matter.

The summit begins at 11:00 on Tuesday, February 25 and will run until 13:00 on Wednesday, February 26. There is a registration fee of R50 per person to register for the summit. Participants can register with iTicket.

In a letter with information for prospective attendees, the leadership of Moreletapark Congregation said:

Decisions made during the 2019 General Synod caused many congregations and members to be confronted with issues on unity, the authority of Scripture, Scriptural interpretation, and conflicting views. This led to the question of the way forward within the Dutch Reformed Church.

 The focus of the summit will be: To create a forum in which, among other things, information on aspects of church law and possible options for dealing with the current issues within the Dutch Reformed Church will be shared. Sufficient time for roundtable discussions will be given to arrive at a point of possible decision-making or further action.

 During the summit, a panel of experts, consisting of ecclesiastical experts and theologians, will be available to assist with the process.

We call on you to pray for this meeting. Pray that the leaders and those attending remember that greater is He that is in us, than He that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Pray for boldness and resistance to bow down to the liberal agendas. Pray that holiness and God’s will will be the priority at the meeting.
