‘Please pray’: Evangelist Torben Sondergaard deported from US after 1 year in prison

JOY! News has received confirmation that Christian evangelist and refugee Torben Søndergaard was deported from the United States.

He was escorted by two US Immigration officers all way to Denmark, as per standard protocol. The officers treated him with dignity and respect.

Upon arriving in Denmark, he was subject to normal passport control and was allowed to immediately turn around and fly to another country. He is now FREE and is safely reunited with his family.

Upon his arrival in Denmark, he underwent standard passport checks and was permitted to promptly travel to another nation. He is now unburdened and has been joyfully reunited with his family beyond the borders of Denmark.

Søndergaard’s legal team says, “Now comes a time of much-needed rest and healing, and gratefulness to God that his painful experience of being detained is now over. Torben has requested privacy and will not be online or responding to calls and emails for the time being. Please continue to pray for Torben’s pending Asylum petition in the US federal court. If it is granted, he will be able to return to the US immediately with his family.”

For the span of a year, Søndergaard was held within the confines of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Baker County Facility in Macclenny, Florida.

On June 30 of the preceding year, he was apprehended in Florida by agents from the Joint Terrorism Task Force while awaiting a verdict on his asylum application with the U.S. government. Despite never being formally charged, he was apprehended under the pretext of gun smuggling and accused of visa overstay.

However, Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA), Chairman of the Border Security and Enforcement Subcommittee, argues that Søndergaard has faced persecution from the administration, seemingly due to his role as an evangelical Christian minister.

Søndergaard and his family fled Denmark in 2019 out of concern for potential persecution and arrest following a series of unwarranted attacks orchestrated by the government and media.

Torben is the founder of The Last Reformation, a global movement aimed at reinstating Christianity in alignment with the teachings of the Book of Acts. Additionally, he established the Jesus Center in Denmark, a training ground for disciples from 30 nations dedicated to propagating this message across the globe.

The adversity against his ministry in Denmark commenced in 2016, when the Jesus Center became the target of investigations by six distinct Danish government bodies, covering matters ranging from food safety to tax payments. No wrongdoing was discovered. Subsequently, when his family chose to homeschool their children, the government subjected them to further scrutiny.

Danish television conducted an undercover exposé on his ministry, featured in a documentary titled “God’s Best Children,” which unfortunately associated Torben with leaders of purportedly “radical Christian” movements tainted by moral, ethical, or criminal issues.

Søndergaard asks Christians to, “Please continue to pray. Pray for the miracle to happen, but also pray for the church. Pray for revival. Pray for the judge, that they will do what is right and not be influenced by the lies and the pressure they are under. Pray for God’s will to be done. And of course, pray for my family…”
