On Sunday, 31 March, Christians around the world celebrate Easter Sunday, the day marking Jesus Christ’s resurrection after His crucifixion.
While in some parts of the world, Christians celebrate freely on national holidays, in other parts, Christians are even more targeted for persecution around Easter time. The 2019 Sri Lankan Easter bombings is one of many examples.
Why is this important?
Jesus says in John 16:33 that: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Easter signifies God’s victory over sin and death.
Jesus Christ was crucified by those He came to save, but His death and resurrection has made a way for those who put their faith in Him to obtain eternal life.
Targeted believers have the opportunity to display this hope amid adversity. Where Christianity is more freely practiced, there may be greater openness to the Gospel during this time.
Pray:
- For the global Church to grow in their love for Jesus and glorify Him with thankful hearts over Easter.
- For the protection of believers over Easter and for them to display Christ in the midst of adversity.
- For a softening of hearts and greater receptivity to His merciful invitation to relationship with Him.
