What Is Happening?
On Tuesday 9 August, during an online news conference, a senior researcher of the European Commission Joint Research Centre warned that the current drought in Europe could be the worst in 500 years. The organisation predicted that severe drought would worsen in Europe, potentially affecting up to 47% of the continent. In the month of July, Europe also battled extreme fires across tens of thousands of hectares in Spain, Greece, Portugal, and France. Over the weekend, about 1,500 people were evacuated from towns in northeast Spain due to a raging forest fire.
Why Is This Important?
Europe is currently facing multiple crises and those in government need much prayer and wisdom in how to tackle these current issues. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” The current circumstances also provide a beautiful opportunity for believers to share the hope they have in Christ with those of other faiths and beliefs.
