What Is Happening?
On Sunday 31 July, Kosovo (a region which broke away from Serbia 14 years ago) postponed the implementation of new border rules after police had to close two border crossings due to a rise in tensions. Protestors parked trucks on roads leading to two border crossings in a territory where Serbians form a majority. The demonstrators are upset about a new rule that would force all people entering Kosovo with Serbian IDs to replace them with a temporary document during their stay in the country. The NATO-led KFOR mission stated that they are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to intervene if stability in the region is threatened.
Why Is This Important?
In 2008, Kosovo formally declared its independence from Serbia. It has been recognised as an independent state by more than 100 countries but not by Serbia or Russia. There are thousands of Serbians living in the north of the country. The prayer is for a de-escalation of tensions and that a proxy war between multiple countries can be avoided.
Pray
- for godly wisdom for the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia to defuse the current tensions
- for peaceful coexistence to prevail between these two nations
- for faithful followers of the Prince of Peace to arise amidst these pressures

“There are three stages to every great work of God; first it is impossible, then it is difficult, then it is done.” (H. Taylor)
