What is happening?
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) faces escalating conflict as the M23 rebel group advances near Goma, a strategic city in the east. The DRC has cut ties with Rwanda, accusing it of supporting M23-claims that Rwanda denies. The UN has reported peacekeeper casualties, including two South Africans and one Uruguayan, while seven Southern African soldiers were also killed in separate missions. With the M23’s rapid territorial gains, the situation remains volatile, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

Why is this important?
The escalating conflict in the DRC highlights the urgent need for prayer, peace, and compassion-not only for the nation but also for those living in and around the conflict zones. Violence like this displaces thousands, leaving families vulnerable and communities devastated. As followers of Christ, we are called to intercede on behalf of the affected. Crises like this challenge the global Church to stand in solidarity with believers in the DRC, offering hope and reflecting Christ’s love in the midst of turmoil.

Pray:

  • Pray for global, regional, and local leaders to act with wisdom and compassion, working towards justice and sustainable peace while avoiding further escalation of violence.
  • Pray for the Church in the DRC to remain steadfast, offering hope, support, and Christ’s love to those who are suffering.
  • Pray for those forced to flee the conflict, that the countries receiving them may offer safety, provision, and comfort during their displacement.
