President Cyril Ramaphosa again demonstrated his weak and spineless leadership to a corruption weary nation when he announced yet another judicial commission of inquiry into allegations of political interference and organized crime in the SA Police Service.
Ramaphosa placed Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu on special leave – with full pay – and appointed Prof Firoz Chachalia as acting police minister – with full pay. The taxpayer will now foot the bill for two police ministers while actual policing crumbles in South Africa.
After promising the nation a “New Dawn” in 2018 – following nine years of unrestrained theft, fraud, money-laundering and racketeering – facilitated by his predecessor Jacob Zuma – Ramaphosa now takes full ownership of his personally created State Capture 2.0.
Despite repeated promises, Ramaphosa refuses to act decisively against corruption. His motivation for inaction has become patently clear – the protection of ANC cadres. Ramaphosa has repeatedly put the interest of the ANC before the plight of SA’s citizens.
Parliament must call for a vote of no confidence in President Ramaphosa. The country has lost confidence in his failed leadership. SA’s BEE billionaire president appears more obsessed with burnishing his globalist credentials than fulfilling his elected responsibilities.
Establishing commissions of inquiry is Ramaphosa’s way of kicking the can down the road. He lacks the courage to make the hard decisions. Past experience indicates, nothing will come of this commission of inquiry. Reports from two previous commissions were ignored.
Justice Raymond Zondo handed Ramaphosa the Reports of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into State Capture three years ago. Ramaphosa did nothing about it. The Zondo Commission cost taxpayers R1 billion. None of its recommendations were implemented.
Ramaphosa also ignored the 2024 findings of the Commission of Inquiry into Crime Intelligence corruption by the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council (NACAC). As a result, the top leadership of the Crime Intelligence Unit was arrested for corruption recently.
In November 2024, Ramaphosa addressed a NACAC dialogue in Johannesburg. He said, “If corruption is not arrested or stopped, the greatest damage will not be in the funds that are stolen…or the jobs that are lost, it will be in the damaging of our democracy. It will be in making our people have less confidence and less trust in our democracy.”
Ramaphosa’s speech to NACAC is a self-fulfilling prophecy. His failure to act against corruption within his ranks has damaged SA’s democracy. Citizens no longer trust the democratic process to address the challenges of poverty, unemployment and crime.
This is evidenced by the fact the majority of eligible voters did not bother to vote in the May 2024 General Elections – which incidentally, cost the ANC its majority in Parliament.
Ramaphosa is the facilitator of State Capture 2.0. He misuses his authority to get rid of those who warn about corruption in government while protecting the corrupt in the ANC criminal enterprise. Several ANC state officials are implicated in serious corruption.
Corruption, theft, tender-fraud, money-laundering, racketeering and the gross mismanagement of state resources has skyrocketed under Ramaphosa’s failed leadership. The country faces economic decline because of the ANC’s disastrous Marxist policies.
Ramaphosa and his ilk are not fit to lead South Africa. He has failed the people of SA and must resign immediately. The billionaire president and the ANC millionaires created through tender-fraud and looting of tax-payers funds must be rejected by the people of SA.
