President Cyril Ramaphosa filed an urgent interdict to halt the Phala Phala impeachment inquiry. His Advocate, Wim Trengove argued, “Ramaphosa stands to suffer irreparable harm to his reputation should the High Court not stop the impeachment proceedings.”
Ramaphosa’s lawyer further argued at the Western Cape High Court, “subjecting a sitting head of state to the public spectacle of an impeachment inquiry on the back of a flawed Section 89 report would be a humiliation from which the President cannot easily recover.”
In a tragic irony, this is precisely what South Africa has suffered under the failed presidency of Ramaphosa. He humiliates 62 million citizens and causes irreparable harm to the nation’s economic prospects because of his weak, spineless and mostly absent leadership.
It is evident everywhere that Ramaphosa abdicated his duties and responsibilities as head of state. The collapse of governance at every level, organized crime’s capture and control of the police service and crime intelligence agencies and the mismanagement of critical financial institutions all suggests the president has very little control of the country.
South Africa’s largest asset manager, the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) is plagued by governance failures and corruption. The PIC manages a reported R3.5 trillion of government employee pension funds. Various investigations revealed it is losing billions.
This means not even the pension funds of state employees are safe from rampant ANC corruption and mismanagement. Ramaphosa and his inept ministers consistently appoint corrupt and incompetent cadres to the boards of vital financial institutions like the PIC.
In 2024, Ramaphosa proposed “developing a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) built from State Owned Enterprises (SOE’s) that could support SA’s economic development. The out of touch Ramaphosa used the PIC as an example “the state can be trusted with money.”
Ramaphosa’s grandiose proposals indicate he is not only delusional but detached from reality. Remember the promised “smart cities” – while the ANC run major cities like Johannesburg and Pretoria into the ground. Persistent corruption and mismanagement scandals at the PIC and NSFAS prove the state cannot be trusted with public money at all.
The SOE’s Ramaphosa claims will build the “Sovereign Wealth Fund” are in various states of collapse and in serious debt. Ramaphosa is fully aware ANC cadres primarily use SOE’s as cash cows to milk the treasury of billions through elaborate tender fraud schemes.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is also plagued by mismanagement and corruption to the extent SA universities now face financial stress. The financial aid the scheme was set up to offer students is mostly non-existent because of corruption.
Despite billions being mismanaged and stolen at the PIC, NSFAS and SOE’s Ramaphosa proposed a R100 billion Transformation Fund “to aid black business.” But it’s another grand ANC scheme to siphon billions from legitimate businesses to enrich corrupt ANC cadres.
Ramaphosa appointed Senzo Mchunu as Police Minister. He also appointed Fannie Masemola as National Commissioner of Police. Both are suspended with full pay because of alleged links to organized crime. The State Security Agency, Crime Intelligence, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption and the NPA are compromised by criminality.
Ramaphosa’s dereliction of duty as head of state intensified the mostly avoidable decline of South Africa’s economy. His failure to act decisively against state corruption, the capture of SAPS and crime intelligence agencies, and failure to urgently intervene in the wanton destruction and collapse of entire municipalities – exposes his complete lack of concern.
The sorry state of “South Africa House” in Trafalgar Square in London is symbolic of this neglect. This famous and historic diplomatic landmark has fallen into disrepair because of Ramaphosa’s inability to appoint credible diplomats to represent SA internationally.
Cyril Ramaphosa’s weak leadership handed control of state institutions to organised crime. The ANC is controlled by criminals. The DA, the ANC’s largest partner in the GNU, has done little to stop the rot despite possessing the power to intervene in governance failures.
Ramaphosa’s urgent interdict at the High Court underscores his leadership philosophy – “his excellency” is too important to account to ordinary citizens. He does not participate in media interviews nor does he answer questions from reporters. He is too high, too mighty.
The bought and paid for mainstream media is mostly flattering of Ramaphosa’s “calm and steady leadership.” They refuse to press him on critical issues. However, SA citizens are morally and constitutionally obligated to hold him accountable to his oath of office.
The most effective way to hold Ramaphosa and his government accountable is in courts of law and at the ballot box. Family Policy Institute and Rescue SA Civil Rights Alliance work diligently to help citizens hold politicians accountable in the courts and with the vote.
