Last month we hosted an online conference focussed on “Rebuilding the Walls of South Africa”. Various influential vessels shared aspects of the Kingdom blueprints that would be needed for rebuilding the walls in our country. The conference’s sub-themes included: Kingdom Leadership for Rebuilding, Kingdom Economic blueprints for Rebuilding, Kingdom Legislative and Governance patterns for Rebuilding, and the Church’s role in Rebuilding.
It is time to rebuild and restore
As a nation we have cried, mourned, prayed, and fasted because of recent events in South Africa and the prolonged Covid-19 lockdown period. It is now time to arise and prepare to rebuild. God is looking for and bringing together Nehemiahs in this season who are ready to be used by Him to rebuild nations. Ungodly altars have been shaken from the roots in many nations and it is now time to rebuild according to God’s Kingdom patterns and blueprints.
God is looking for Nehemiahs who are ready to be used by Him to rebuild nations.
Who are the Nehemiahs?
In the Bible, Nehemiah was so burdened after seeing the ruins of the walls of Jerusalem that he was moved to pray and fast. God is looking for those with burdens for their nations and those who carry a passion to see their nations rebuilt in line with God’s Kingdom and redemptive plans. The Nehemiahs are sons (or daughters) of God who know how to steward their Father’s estate. They are a generation of sons who pursue the agenda of the Kingdom and not personal agendas. They build Kingdom buildings, not personal towers of Babel. They are Kingdom-minded and Kingdom-focussed, and will not allow the scepticism or criticism of the Tobiahs and Sanballats to distract, derail, or hinder them from rebuilding the walls.
How did Nehemiah rebuild the wall? There are 3 main steps:
1. He got his vision from God
Nehemiah’s burden and dismay over the damaged city walls led him to fast and pray. It was in this time of prayer and fasting that he ‘downloaded’ the vision for rebuilding from God. Nehemiah sought direction from the Father because he knew that his ability and success for rebuilding could only come from God. This is why he said in Nehemiah 2:20, “I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success…’”
2. Sharing the vision
Every vision must be shared with others. Rebuilding is not a mandate for one person, it requires teamwork and needs teams that are unified in faith, in agenda, and in action. Nehemiahs must be sensitive in sharing the vision that God has given them and mindful with whom they share it. Nehemiah shared the vision with the King, and found in him a vessel who facilitated and supported the vision. When rebuilding, Nehemiahs must look for other Nehemiahs who carry the same burden for rebuilding the walls of the nation. They must look for destiny helpers like the King who will support and not strangle the vision.
Nehemiahs must be alert to those who are assigned to oppose the vision, the Tobiahs and Sanballats who show up to criticise, condemn, oppose, and sabotage. When they meet such people, they must remain steadfast and focussed on building. True Nehemiahs will not allow the naysayers to derail them from rebuilding. They keep focussed on the assignment and shut out the voices of detractors.
3. Executing the vision
Implementing the vision means gathering people and resources. In gathering the people, Nehemiahs should heed the advice Jethro gave to his son-in-law Moses when he advised him on how to build teams. Jethro told Moses in Exodus 18:21 to “…select capable men from among the people—God-fearing, trustworthy men who are averse to dishonest gain. Appoint them over the people as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.” Nehemiahs, therefore, will gather a team that fears God and have godly characters, and will exhibit the fruit of the spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23.
We lift up the nations of the world and call forth the Nehemiahs to emerge, arise, and rebuild in the name of Yeshua Hamashiach!
