South Africans observed “Human Rights Day” on 21 March 2023 – an event that celebrates the Bill of Rights enshrined in the Constitution of South Africa – that guarantees the basic human rights of every citizen. The apartheid regime denied the majority of citizens these basic human rights.

Tragically, however, “Human Rights Day” like “Freedom Day” (observed on 27 April) has lost all purpose and meaning. The very government that adopted South Africa’s first Democratic Constitution in 1996, is now perverting the law to deny citizens their human rights and freedoms – to advance an irrational and bankrupt ideology – reversing the gains of its failing democracy.

In 1994, then ANC MP, Cyril Ramaphosa was elected Chairperson of the Constitutional Assembly – tasked with overseeing the drafting of South Africa’s first Democratic Constitution. On 8 May 1996, Ramaphosa addressed the Constitutional Assembly prior to adopting the Constitution.

In his speech Ramaphosa eloquently declared, “This constitution, with its Bill of Rights, is the mirror of South African society. It reflects both the history from which we have emerged, and the values we now cherish – human dignity, equality and freedom. It proclaims to the world that we are a society committed to democracy, to the rule of law and the protection of human rights.”

“It celebrates the richness of the diversity of cultures, religions and beliefs of South Africans, and affirms that all belong as equals in our one nation. It commits the State to respecting, protecting, promoting and to fulfilling the rights in the Bill of Rights and acknowledges that it is not enough for the Government simply to refrain from violating people’s rights. It is also necessary… to take positive measures to ensure the full and equal enjoyment of human rights by all South Africans.”

Remarkably, just 27 years later, the same Cyril Ramaphosa, now President of the Republic of South Africa presides over the steady erosion of the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens including the hollowing out of democratic institutions established to uphold and protect it.

President Ramaphosa and his government appear increasingly detached from the grim reality facing ordinary citizens. At a “Human Rights Day” speech in De Aar, Ramaphosa claimed, “Human Rights Day was the day when the country celebrated “the great progress” the nation had made in building a democracy founded on human rights for all”  – this while murders soar above 70 per day and those investigating and exposing corruption in SA are routinely assassinated by hired killers.

To be sure, human rights are given by our Creator-God. He (God) also established civil-government to uphold and protect life, liberty and property. “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil…for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” Romans 13:3,4. The ANC regime, however, promotes and protects evil and punishes good works.

The SA government has elevated socially-engineered abortion and LGBTQ “rights” and privileges above the legitimate human rights and freedoms of religious citizens. Abortion-on-demand – even to children – has become a sacrament in a secular rite that glorifies death and depravity.

The ANC government is actively dismantling marriage and the natural family – bedrock institutions of society – to appease LGBTQ radicals. The Constitution guarantees the rights of the child. Despite this, government degrades the only social unit capable of protecting children. The best environment for children is a stable family in which both a father and mother are present.

An architect of the SA Constitution – Ramaphosa (and his government) are now driving a wedge between children and their parents by manipulating the education system to grant foreign radicals direct access to indoctrinate innocent children with abortion and LGBTQ propaganda.

The Constitution guarantees all children a decent education and a safe learning environment. But the ANC regime has transformed schools into laboratories of radical sexual experimentation and abortion and LGBTQ sexual indoctrination – and as a tragic consequence – academic decline.

The draft “Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill” (BELA Bill) proposes amendments to the “Schools Act” that will severely restrict home-schooling parents from choosing the best education for their children. It will also mandate “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” (CSE) and “Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity” (SOGI) policies for students in and outside schools.

The Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of religion, freedom of expression, belief, and opinion. But according to the ANC regime, “sexual rights” trumps all other rights and freedoms. Parliament is currently finalizing the “Hate Crimes Bill” and “PEPUDA Amendment Bill” – both designed to criminalise religious beliefs and convictions & severely restrict religious speech and expression.

The Constitution guarantees the safety and dignity of women and children. However, the ANC regime is fast-tracking the “Sexual Offences Amendment Bill” to legalize the entire sex-industry that will effectively legitimize pimps, brothel owners and criminal syndicates – the very human parasites who mercilessly exploit, abuse and dehumanize vulnerable women and children.

The Constitution protects the rights of men and women in marriage. The ANC regime bowed to the demands of sexual rights radicals and drafted the “Single Marriage Statute” to abolish man, woman marriage in law – primarily to equate it with same-sex and transgender unions.

Rampant corruption, growing unemployment, economic instability, bankrupt municipalities, the energy and water crisis, the deterioration of health and education and soaring crime that transformed a once prosperous country with great promise into a failed mafia state – leaves very little to celebrate on “Human Rights Day.” The SA Constitution is therefore rendered powerless.

President Ramaphosa and the ANC have indicated their admiration for the policies of the totalitarian Chinese Communist Party. It is also a loyal ally of the Marxist Cuban dictatorship and Russia. Significantly, none of these regimes respect the human rights or freedoms of its citizens.

“Human Rights Day” in South Africa is therefore a farce. The ANC regime is no longer “committed to democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights.” If Christian citizens (the Church) and civil-society fail to actively defend its hard won human rights and freedoms – it will lose it.

Someone said, “If you are not prepared to fight for what you believe  – you don’t really believe it.”

  1. This is extremely worrisome, but, indeed, we should stop worrying about this and take a firm stand against it!! We may under no circumstances allow governments’ bullying tactics to overrun us. There insanity should be exposed and demolished!
