On Friday, 27 September 2024, South African Afro-soul singer and live music performer, S’nazo, will release a new single called Konke as a teaser to her second album, titled Churchgirl Who Sings Afro. Like the upcoming album, Konke is a soulful fusion of gospel, Afro-soul and Afro-jazz. The song has an uplifting message enhanced by heartwarming vocals, assuring the listener that by faith all things are within reach.

In Konke, the two musical worlds of gospel and African soul that have shaped S’nazo’s career intersect brilliantly, thanks to her gospel music experience and her rising star in Afro-soul, evidenced by, among others, getting a SAMA nomination in 2023 (Best African Adult Contemporary Album of the Year) for her debut album, I Am Gold.

“Konke is one of those songs that speak to you first as the singer, and you can only pray that it will touch the hearts and souls of people in the same way. Sometimes we’re held back by our own perspective of what’s going on in our lives. If we believe that no matter how gloomy things may seem, God can still do the impossible, it changes everything. And this is really what this song is all about,” shares S’nazo, who holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of the Free State.

According to S’nazo, the song is both a cry for help and a statement of bold faith that konke kuyenzeka, konke kulungile. There are endless possibilities in God, including the possibility of stillness. Additionally, the song emphasizes the need for a deeper connection with God, whom she refers to as “Mdali wako konke” – the Creator of everything.

Born in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape and now based in Johannesburg, S’nazo is no stranger to music lovers. Just as she has cemented herself in the hearts of millions of SABC 1’s Skeem Saam viewers where her music syncs regularly, she has also become a favourite for listeners of radio stations across the country. Again, she has been featured in Apple Music’s Mzansi Risers playlist, dedicated to highlighting rising stars in the music industry across all genres.
