It has become increasingly clear the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has washed its hands off the teen-pregnancy crisis in South Africa and abandoned all attempts to find real solutions to this growing problem as evidenced by the expanding foreign control of education in South Africa.

The latest foreign agency to parachute into the “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” (CSE) fiasco is the “Amaze” project – an online animated video series targeting 10 – 14-year-olds. Once again, the series originates in the US and is adapted for South African audiences. Most notable is the fact that it is funded and championed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

“Amaze” managing partner is “Advocates for Youth” – a US based pro-abortion and LGBTQ rights organisation. Other global partners include UNFPA and the “International Planned Parenthood Federation” (IPPF) – the groups behind the radical abortion and sexual rights ideology in CSE.

In an article entitled, “Comprehensive sexuality education – essential component of reproductive health care for youth,” the obviously biased journalist writes, “In South Africa 65% of pregnancies between 2015 and 2019 were unintended, with 36% of them resulting in abortion, according to UNFPA. In 2019, that meant 14 million pregnancies with just over five million terminations. It is a silent crisis that faces South African communities.”

The article continues, Tshego Bessenaar of Ibis Reproductive Health said, “Despite the challenges posed by cultural and religious attitudes and a measure of political resistance, there is growing evidence of the importance of CSE in promoting total well-being, health-seeking behaviour, and informed decision making about overall sexual and reproductive health.”  This is an outright lie.

Tragically, evidence shows the exact opposite to Bessenaar’s claims are true. CSE has been piloted in SA public schools in several provinces since 2015. During this time teen-pregnancies skyrocketed. The actual evidence shows, CSE does not promote well-being, health-seeking behaviour or informed decision making. It sexualizes children by promoting high-risk sexual experimentation that fuels premature sexual activity and out-of-control teen-pregnancy rates.

CSE is rooted in the dangerous ideology of “sexual rights”- not sexual health as Bessenaar claims. It teaches children as young as 5 they have a “right” to sexual pleasure. UNESCO, the UN agency driving CSE in South Africa endorsed a video promoting sexual pleasure for 5-year-olds. 

The “Amaze” animated video series is no different. It is selling a dangerous and destructive lie to innocent children. CSE is nothing less than radical abortion and LGBTQ propaganda dressed up as sexuality education. These videos promote a perverse and harmful ideology to minors.

The most egregious aspect of the CSE agenda is that it drives a wedge between children and their parents. Why would the SA government surrender the fight against skyrocketing teen-pregnancies in SA to foreign activists – while excluding parents, civil-society and the Church?

Various government officials often declared, “We must find African solutions to African problems.” But when it comes to sexuality education, the ANC regime grants foreign agencies total control.

What the real state of education does show is that education standards deteriorated considerably under ANC corruption and maladministration. The results of the 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study show that 81% of Grade 4 learners in South Africa are unable to read for meaning in any language. South African students had some of the lowest results in the world.

While the ANC regime pours billions into promoting abortion and LGBTQ propaganda to children, three thousand schools are still forced to use pit toilets  almost three decades into democracy.

The collapse of educational standards in South Africa parralels the ANC regime’s obsession with promoting abortion and sexual rights to school children. Quality education is therefore sacrificed. The results speak for themselves. South Africa has low levels of academic outcomes in the public schooling system – but high rates of rape, sexual exploitation and teen-pregnancies.

The “Amaze” project is just another weapon in the ever expanding arsenal of foreign sexual rights radicals. Its real aim is to target and indoctrinate 10 – 14 year old children in and out of school using innocent looking animated videos – with a dangerous abortion and sexual rights message.

Family Policy Institute (FPI) launched the “Protect Children SA” initiative in 2022 to arm parents, grandparents, educators and the Church with accurate information about this insidious agenda. We use social-media targeted campaigns to get our message out to as many citizens as possible.

Sadly, however, FPI does not have the resources to compete with UN agencies and their billionaire funders. We have produced informative videos about the harms of CSE and the common-sense, sexuality education alternative, “Smart Choices” – that focus on sexual health.

However, we lack the financial backing to launch a sustained social-media campaign. I again call on civil-society and Church leaders to publicly speak out against the threat of CSE and the foreign radicals that drive its dangerous agenda in SA. The children need your voice and leadership now!
