Christian entrepreneurs are being challenged to lead an outbreak of the spirit of enterprise to help replace jobs being lost during the coronavirus pandemic.
This week a global partnership is being launched to help faith-inspired
entrepreneurs to create societal value, sustainable employment and economic growth.
The Spirit of Enterprise wants to encourage people to use their God-given gifts of enterprise by backing faith-inspired entrepreneurs with coaching, connections and capital.
The partnership, which is backed by Cinnamon Network International, includes on its steering group ‘The Business Bishop’ Wayne Malcolm, Cinnamon’s founder Matt Bird, Start Up Coach Lisa Chee MBE and social entrepreneur Claudine Reid MBE.
Its launch follows a huge reaction to an article written by Matt Bird in The Times in which he called for “an outbreak for something greater than a virus”.
Matt says, “Launching into 2021, we need an outbreak of something more
powerful than a virus: an outbreak of the spirit of enterprise.
“Cinnamon Network International has been busier than ever during the
pandemic supporting social entrepreneurs to scale community impact. Our
partners in the UK are opening community ‘listening ear’ centres.
“In South Africa partners are producing thousands of face masks to protect key workers, while in Australia they are training volunteers to reduce the tragic growth of domestic violence. Cinnamon Network is supporting these social entrepreneurs to replicate these approaches to save others having to reinvent the wheel.”
The Spirit of Enterprise partnership will help faith-inspired entrepreneurs to launch new ventures to help communities, which Matt says is inspired by the Bible.
He says, “As a follower of Jesus, my go-to place for inspiration is the Bible which says, ‘Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.’ (Deuteronomy 8:18). Clearly, wealth creation is a gift of God not a gift of capitalism. Like all of God’s gifts we can asked him for them.”
Lisa Chee MBE added, “Raising awareness of how enterprise helps flourishing among people is important. But practical application is better, and we plan to create a platform to encourage and equip new ventures to launch.”
