The majority of South African citizens support traditional family values. Inexplicably, however, the ruling ANC and the official opposition DA, both promote a liberal secular humanist ideology.
On 27 Feb, I joined Dr. Arno Van Niekerk, Dr. Ruben Richards and Adv Alan Nelson for a meeting with political party leaders in Parliament to discuss the results of the “Christian Consensus.”
Dr. Arno Van Niekerk conducted a nationwide survey on the values, policies, and principles Christian voters consider most crucial for the political, economic and social transformation of South Africa. The survey results dubbed the, “Christian Consensus” received widespread support.
The leaders of the DA, COPE, ACDP and the FF+ who were available to attend the initial meeting did indicate their support in principle but suggested amending certain wording in the document.
The goal of the “Christian Consensus” is to inform and educate political parties in Parliament about the values and principles that are shared by the vast majority of citizens in South Africa.
The majority of South African citizens support traditional family values. Inexplicably, however, the ruling ANC and the official opposition DA, both promote a liberal secular humanist ideology.
This means, the largest (62%) and second largest (22%) political parties in South Africa represent the liberal ideology of a minority of citizens while the value system of the majority are ignored.
Consequently, liberal secular humanism is magnified and grossly over-represented in the South African government while the conservative values of the majority of citizens are marginalised.
Interestingly, the leaders of both the ANC, Cyril Ramaphosa and the DA’s Mmusi Maimane were trained and involved in the Christian Church and are intimately familiar with the Scriptures.
Significantly therefore, State Capture may not be the nation’s greatest challenge. The country’s greatest threat is liberal secular humanism’s “capture” and dominance of SA culture and most tragically, the voluntary surrender of the majority value system to this bankrupt ideology.
The “Christian Consensus,” therefore, is a noble and necessary initiative to reclaim the culture, assert the value system of the majority and help political leaders acknowledge this reality.
A follow up meeting is planned with a wider group of political leaders soon. Whatever the outcomes, Christian leaders must engage with government to ensure its voice is not drowned out.
I secured a TV interview with DA Leader, Mmusi Maimane to discuss the ten points set out in the “Christian Consensus.” The programs will be broadcast on “Salt & Light” on TBN in Africa on Sun 10 March at 6pm and “Watchmen on the Wall” on Faith Channel on Tues 12 March at 6:30pm.
I have also requested an interview with President Cyril Ramaphosa and the leaders or representatives of the opposition parties to get their response to the “Christian Consensus.”
