“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” – 1 Corinthians 24-27, NIV
We find ourselves in a time in history where there is a lot of uncertainty, unaccountability, a lack of commitment, and general apathy in society. Many people, including Christians, just don’t seem to be interested in “running the race to win” anymore. We somehow don’t view our roles or life journeys in the same way as the Lord does. We are called to a high standard – training and striving to win should be our goal.
We need to train
Whether it is in our studies, careers, marriages, parenting roles, spiritual development, or whatever area it may be, we can’t win if we don’t train. Many today want to be excluded from having to make an effort and don’t seem deterred by not taking any responsibility.
Dealing with obstacles
We can’t participate in the race but then not be prepared to deal with the obstacles along the way. Training means overcoming. If we don’t train to win, then how are we going to justify to the Lord that we gave our best and are worthy of the crown? The scripture above is clear: “run in such a way as to get the prize.”
Keep running with perseverance
In these challenging times, it’s easy to succumb to this uncertainty. However, let’s remember the call to a higher standard. Embrace the obstacles as opportunities to overcome, and in doing so, honour the race set before us. Run with purpose, giving your best in every stride, so that the prize becomes not just a goal but a testament to your dedication. Keep running with perseverance, and may your journey be crowned with victories that glorify your best efforts.
