This is a gratitude column! I want to give God all the glory and honour. Last month, Abba Father showed me the true meaning of God’s grace at another level. On February 8, I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and neglected to switch on the light. On my way back, I tripped and fell badly over a suitcase in my bedroom and was seriously hurt. X-ray and CT scans, taken the following day, revealed a broken foot. A few days later, the orthopaedic surgeon placed a cast on my foot, which was to remain for six weeks.
Guided through challenges
What was I going to do? March was one of my busiest months, with 12 conferences and meetings that I had to speak at across Southern Africa – including Durban, Cape Town, Mpumalanga, Johannesburg, and Pretoria, as well as in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. After seeking guidance from the Lord, He instructed me to proceed, assuring me that He was with me. Despite my condition, I managed to navigate all the airports and travels with casts, crutches, wheelchairs, and moon boots. God was certainly with me, and I give Him all the glory and praise.
Overcoming doubt with faith
When a few people tried to discourage me, I assured them that God had commissioned me to preach. I pointed out that I preach with my mouth, not my foot – though I have been known to sometimes put my “foot in my mouth”!
A call to action
At the Significance conference in Johannesburg, God instructed me to commission the women with the word gijima (Zulu for run). Then, He told me to gijima. It seemed strange because of my broken foot, but I trusted God, obeyed Him, and ran. I believe the Lord wanted to inspire many women who were spiritually wounded and broken to get up and run – gijima. The image of me hobbling and limping at the pulpit delivered a message of hope for many, signalling that even though wounded and broken, they should not be counted out.
Grace fuels endurance
With my broken foot, God enabled me to record 13 episodes of my TBN Ambassador of Change programme in two days, starting each day at 4:00 and finishing at 20:00. He also enabled me to drive myself almost four hours to Welkom and four hours back to minister at a conference.
Healing and restoration
A few days ago, my doctor removed my cast and reported good progress, which God had already revealed to me. He said I no longer needed the crutches. I began my physiotherapy sessions, which I will continue for a few more weeks to complete the healing that has already begun. I will also continue to wear a moon boot for the next few weeks to complete the final stage of healing.
Empowered by grace
JOY! family, remember that grace is not disabling, it is empowering – and it should not be used as an excuse for failure. Receive His grace and be empowered to do exploits for God! Grace can be received, and it can also be rejected. To deliberately plan to sin using grace as justification is actually a rejection of grace. Grace is sufficient; it does not fail.
A beacon of light
May you receive grace upon grace to fulfil your Kingdom assignments and mandate. Switch on the light so you can see where you are going, and even more importantly, become the light that you are meant to be (Matt 5:14)!
