In the August 2025 issue of JOY! Magazine, the editor (Erin) mentioned small and big miracles, and the importance of writing them down in a book. Her words encouraged me to share a testimony of my own.

Journey to Mozambique
In 1993, just after the war in Mozambique, my husband (now ex), my youngest daughter, and I went on an outreach to Mozambique with Operation Mobilisation. There were 200 of us in total. One morning we went on a walking tour of the bombed buildings, and one of them had a wall with various pictures painted on it. The other 198 had already passed the wall after checking out the paintings. My husband had also looked at the wall and was ahead of me, and I lagged behind to take a closer look.

An unexpected Bible
As I neared the wall, I saw something on the ground next to it. Keep in mind that at that time there was a drought in Mozambique. It was dusty everywhere. To my surprise, I found an Afrikaans Bible lying there. Afrikaans in Mozambique! So weird.

No dust, and no words
I picked it up and noticed that there was no dust on it. It looked good as new. It even had the gold finger index and gold-lined pages, with thumb presses on it. But the biggest shock was when I opened the Bible. All the pages were empty! No print on any of them!

‘Why only me?’
The others and my husband had stood by that wall and not one of them had seen the Bible. Why only me? This could only have been from God. When we got back to camp, we went to our tent and prayed. We asked God why it was only me that had seen the Bible. What was the reason for that? And God answered: “I want you to write down all the miracles I have done for you and all that I am still going to do.”

Remembering His faithfulness
And that is what I have been doing since that day – recording all miracles, great and small, in our lives. It helps me when I feel discouraged or down, and I go to this Bible and again relive what God did for us through the years. It reminds me that He is always near, even if it does not feel so. That I can trust Him and that He will come through in His timing. We must never lose hope.
