The upcoming ANC Elective Conference scheduled for December this year has intensified internal factional battles within the governing party. Attacks against President Cyril Ramaphosa – and his fragile leadership of the party – have escalated significantly.
As a consequence, the onslaught for the soul of South Africa has intensified as the stakes are raised. The barbarians are at the gate! Wicked individuals and groups are plotting to re-capture the state and its institutions to serve their own narrow and selfish interests.
The Radical Economic Transformation (RET) faction in the ANC appear to be utilizing every tactic at their disposal to take back control of the governing party at the upcoming Elective Conference. Their goal is to dismiss the recommendations in the “State Capture” Report and hollow out the NPA to protect the countless ANC cadres implicated in massive corruption.
Part two of the “State Capture” Report is scheduled to be delivered to the president’s office at the end of January. More damning revelations are expected to be ventilated publicly.
Zandile Mafe, the suspect charged with setting fire to Parliament reportedly confessed (to the investigating officer), he wanted to burn down the building to prevent the State of the Nation Address (SONA) and demand that Ramaphosa resign – among other bizarre demands.
Political analysts agree, Tourism Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu’s assault on black judges and the Constitution is calculated to dare the President to fire her. Sisulu is ANC royalty. If Ramaphosa axed her from the cabinet he could diminish his prospects of re-election in Dec.
ANC MP, Mervyn Dirks, a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) demanded Ramaphosa be investigated for apparently encouraging the use of public funds for internal ANC campaigns – in a leaked audio clip. Dirks was suspended from Parliament.
The Special Investigative Unit’s (SIU) investigation of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) contracts to combat Covid-19, reveal a litany of theft, fraud and corruption worth R14,3 billion by ANC officials despite Ramaphosa’s assurances it would not happen.
Besides Lindiwe Sisulu’s ambitions to replace Ramaphosa as ANC president, Deputy President, David Mabuza also has his sights set on the top job. However, allegations implicating Mabuza in massive corruption and even murder has reached the courts.
Several RET faction leaders face serious charges in court this year. Many others are implicated in corruption, fraud and theft in the “State Capture” Report. The only way to avoid certain prosecution and lengthy prison sentences is re-taking control of state organs.
South Africa stands at the cross-roads in 2022. As Christian citizens we have the chance – through prayer and strategic action – to wrestle our nation from the clutches of corrupt and self-serving criminals – or remain trapped in the nightmare of an impending failed state.
The political landscape may change dramatically in the General Elections in 2024. The ANC is self-destructing fast as corrupt cadres tear into each other for the privilege to loot public funds with impunity. The demise of the governing party is already at an advanced stage.
President Ramaphosa will deliver the ‘State of the Nation Address’ at the Cape Town City Hall on 10 February 2022. On 11 February 1990, Mr. Ramaphosa held the microphone for former President, Nelson Mandela on the steps of the Cape Town City Hall for his first public address shortly after his release from prison. That speech promised a new era for South Africa.
The speech at the CT City Hall in Feb 1990 marked a turning point for SA, we must pray that Ramaphosa’s speech at the same venue 32 years later will spark a new era for the nation.
As believers we know what is transpiring in our country is not only political intrigue – but a spiritual battle as well. That’s why the Church must commit to faithfully and fervently pray for the nation and act and speak in faith this year. Because this is how we overcome.
