We are in a season of revival – it is important that we do not quench these beginning flames. Joel 2:28-29 says, “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”
Poor understanding of scripture
The spirit of religion – along with shallow exegesis and poor interpretation of scripture – always tries to block the flow of revival by sidelining certain groups on the basis of gender or colour. You cannot restrain the voices and presence of women and expect revival to flow.
Chuck Pierce wrote his book, The Future War of the Church: “Today, we must ask how God wants to raise up women to influence the Kingdom and the world. We must also recognise how satan’s plans depend on the continued oppression of women…”
Women in the Word
In the Bible, women have always been on the frontlines – judging and leading nations and battles like Deborah, and leaving generational impact like Esther. Junia was the first female Apostle, and God used the five daughters of Zelophehad to end a longstanding and oppressive patriarchal law which prohibited women from inheriting property from their fathers.
Ladies don’t always get recognition
In the modern area, there are examples of Maria Etta Woodworth, Kathryn Kuhlmann, and Aimee Semple McPherson whom God used mightily. Many have heard of African American preacher William Seymour who led the Azusa Street Revival, but few know of African American Lucy Farrow who provided the initial spark that gave birth to the Azusa Street Revival. Women are a key part of this next revival move and must not be excluded, stopped, nor silenced.
Esther: The praying queen who refused to remain silent
Women have played important roles in previous revivals and will play key roles in the coming revival. It was a male figure, Mordecai, who reminded Esther that her voice was needed to liberate a generation. In Chuck Pierce’s words, “We are seeing a generation of Esthers arising—godly, obedient, grace-filled women who are being positioned to overthrow the enemies of the future.”
