If Sue Jameson had any doubts about her calling as a Joy Activist and Laughter Coach, the Lord finally put those to rest on her birthday in August 2012. Earlier that year, she had received five separate prophetic words that the Lord was placing a sword in her hands – to demolish the works of the enemy – and she knew immediately that her sword, her weapon, was joy and laughter. This year she has heard or read these words prophesied three times: “Joy is a weapon!” And more recently, “Laughter is a weapon!” Sue couldn’t be more thrilled to hear confirmation of what she had heard from the Lord, and the sense of urgency in her, to share these truths, has only increased.

Sue teaches that joy and laughter are weapons that the Lord has given each one of us. For her birthday that year, she decided to buy herself a sword. After hearing its history, she chose a small, perfectly scaled replica of the sword that belonged to Charlemagne, an Emperor in Europe who fought for Christ. It was a beautiful sword but only when she got home, and onto the internet, did she realise just how significant it was. Charlemagne had a name for his sword, and the English translation of this name, ‘Joyeuse’ is ‘Joyful!’ Sue says, “Only God could have orchestrated that wonderful surprise and I can imagine His delight when I made this astonishing discovery!”

It was 21 years ago that Sue first heard about and began to research laughter therapy, and she has now poured all her knowledge, experience and personal testimonies of joy and laughter into an eBook called, “The JoyRide in 31 Days”. In the book, which is part devotional and part textbook, she writes, “This book is dedicated to the people of God… the sons and daughters of the Most High God. It is my love letter to the Church.”

No one can deny that we are living in troubled and dangerous times, and that our enemy is the thief who “comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy” (John 10:10). However, Jesus continued to say in that same scripture, “I came that they may have life in all its fullness, in abundance, more and better than they ever dreamed of” (from various translations). Sue says, “We must bravely wield our weapons of joy and laughter and fight, as the victorious conquerors that we already are, for this fullness of life, and that in doing so, we will show the world that the Gospel really is Good News.”

In 2014 Sue won a Vodacom ‘Firsts’ competition, and as her prize, in November that year, JOYburg was launched in spectacular style, with joy and laughter being released into the streets of the city. She is looking for champions who will partner with her in this vision.

Modern science proves that laughter is good medicine and is, in fact, the antidote to stress, which Sue believes, as the No 1 killer in the world, is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons. She teaches people how to take their ‘laughter medicine’ and gives practical advice on how to find strength and empowerment in His joy.

Ultimately though, Sue’s greatest determination is to call the Body of Christ into a deeper relationship with the Lord. “In His presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). She says, “It is in the secret place that we discover our true identity, our calling, and our passion, and it is in intimacy with our Beloved Jesus that we come into a greater revelation of who He is, and who we are as the Bride of Christ.” She believes that she is called and anointed to challenge and equip the Church to rise up as ‘The Warrior Bride’ – committed, courageous, passionate and pure. Sue says, “It is the only way to live – all for His glory – and in living this way, we will truly be the light that draws others to Jesus.”
