A historic moment unfolded on Saturday at Athlone Stadium, Cape Town when thousands of men from across the Cape Flats and surrounding areas gathered for the Mighty Men Cape Flats event — a day of prayer, praise, and restoration. The gathering, organised by Radio Tygerberg 104FM, in response to widespread gang violence and drug abuse in the area, served as a powerful reminder that God continues to move in the hearts of men across South Africa.

Testimonies of healing and hope
One of the most moving moments of the day came when Ivor Swartz shared his deeply touching testimony. Growing up in poverty without a father, Swartz became involved with the notorious 26s gang and eventually landed in prison after taking his brother’s life. While in prison, his life was radically transformed. Today, he travels the country encouraging men to discover their true identity in God.

Popular SuperSport presenter Johnny Davids also shared how he overcame abuse, poverty, and severe adversity to achieve the success he enjoys today. He testified that God set him free to live without fear or despair — a message that resonated deeply with the thousands of men in attendance.

A message of leadership and restoration
The highlight of the day came when Angus Buchan addressed the crowd. Men and children literally embraced him as he and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis greeted the audience in front of the stage. Buchan also took the opportunity to pray for Hill-Lewis in his role as the city’s leader — a deeply moving moment of unity and faith.

With his trademark passion, Buchan urged men to take their rightful place in their homes and communities — to be spiritual leaders, protect their families, and raise a new generation grounded in faith. His call to repentance and prayer filled the stadium with a tangible sense of reverence and hope.

Praise that touched Heaven
Worship was powerfully led by Neville D, Grammy-nominated musician and host of Real Brekfis on Radio Tygerberg (weekdays 6.00–9.00). Neville, who grew up on the Cape Flats himself, reminded the crowd of the strength found in praise and gratitude — no matter the circumstances. He was joined by a men’s choir that filled the stadium with songs of faith and victory.

A movement that continues
“Mighty Men Cape Flats was more than just a gathering,” said Hardus Zevenster, Chief Executive Officer of the Bloudruk Group, of which Radio Tygerberg 104FM is a part. “It’s a movement of hope. We can no longer stand by while violence on the Cape Flats claims lives daily. Today, we witnessed hearts being touched, lives being changed, and communities being strengthened. This is only the beginning of something great.”
