More than 6,000 young people attended the first of the 2026 KwaSizabantu Youth conferences in KwaZulu-Natal from 30 June to 5 July. This conference is held twice a year for 7 days of worship, teaching, youth fellowship, and reflection. The theme, “Guard your heart“, spoke directly to the choices and pressures young people face today. Many of the youngsters returned from previous years, which showed the significant impact of these conferences after more than five decades of such gatherings.
This youth conference is well known as a large biannual Christian gathering focused on biblical preaching, worship, prayer, personal repentance, and encouraging young people to commit their lives to Christ. It has been held for decades and attracts thousands of attendees from South Africa and other countries. It is notable for offering a week of accommodation, meals, and attendance – all free of charge.
Dr Peter Hammond from Frontline Fellowship has been a regular speaker at the youth conferences for many years. His messages have generally focused on Christian discipleship, repentance, gratitude and responding to what he described as moral and spiritual challenges. Themes that are consistently present in his messages include the idea that “spiritual revival begins with the individual being changed by God, rather than through political or social solutions alone”. He also regularly encourages the youth to reject sin, pride, and compromise, and rather pursue holiness.
KwaSizabantu’s conferences aim to present the gospel of Jesus Christ; encourage repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation; help young people overcome destructive lifestyles and addictions; provide biblical teaching and Christian discipleship; and encourage participants to be positive influences in their families, schools, churches, and communities.
These twice-yearly conferences provide ample volunteer service opportunities. With thousands of young people arriving from different provinces and even other countries, the logistics are huge. Hundreds of volunteers, many of them from the KwaSizabantu ministry branches across South Africa, come to help with logistics, and many from the branches abroad. These volunteers help feed the thousands of people three times a day and care for the young people’s needs in well-managed workgroups.
The KwaSizabantu conferences attract young people from various provinces, demonstrating strong national support. Starting in 1974 as small gatherings where testimonies were shared, it has grown into a significant event where many young people from challenging backgrounds find hope. Listening to and sharing life stories that bring hope remain impactful, highlighting the conference’s role in transforming lives and fostering resilience.
At the youth conference, young people also learn practical skills for handling life’s challenges. The topics are relevant to the issues they face, such as drugs, peer pressure, and various social challenges, providing them with tools to navigate these difficulties confidently and safely.
2. The conferences have received visits from world-class speakers and many leaders in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government, and beyond. These guests have described the KwaSizabantu conferences as contributing to youth development by promoting moral values, discipline, mentorship, and positive life choices alongside the spiritual focus.
KwaSizabantu’s work in youth development and community outreach since opening its doors decades ago has been incredible. Since its inception, thousands of people have visited the Mission every year to be helped or to help others. The children’s and young people’s projects have also been part of the Mission’s extensive community outreach programme.
Over the years, the youth conference has become an essential catalyst for recruiting souls for the Kingdom and for helping people with serious problems and addictions. These conferences are often where young people in trouble hear about the help the Concerned Young People of South Africa (CYPSA) restoration programme of KwaSizabantu can provide for addictions. Thousands of young people struggling with addictions have already been helped through this restoration programme, and led to the Lord.
