This time last year, I was 25 kg heavier than I am now. (Before I go any further, please note that this article is not about weight loss.) In February 2024, I visited my doctor and described the symptoms I was experiencing. He diagnosed me with a medical condition that had shut down my metabolism. Once the medical issue was addressed, my metabolism returned to normal, and I lost the 25 kg effortlessly over seven months.

The power of detoxing physically
One of the things my doctor explained was that years of consuming toxins and sugary foods had clogged my system and disrupted my metabolism. I had to detox my body of all refined sugars, replacing them with natural sugars found in fruit and whole foods.

By doing this and drinking sufficient water, my body was cleansed and began to function properly. I now sleep better, have more energy, and my overall physical and emotional health has improved dramatically. My body is functioning at its full capacity!

What do you need to detox?
The principle of detoxification is not only vital for our physical bodies, but even more so for our spiritual lives. Spiritual and natural principles often mirror each other. My question is: what is clogging up your spiritual momentum?

Some things in your life may be hindering your progress. They may have caused a spiritual shutdown or brought unnecessary burdens. This is the perfect time to pause, pray, meditate, and ask God to reveal what you need to detox so that you can live a maximised spiritual life.

Detox wrong associations
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.” Are there relationships in your life that are “clogging up your system”? Take a spiritual inventory and identify any associations that might need to end.

The more time we spend in bad company, the greater the negative influence on our lives. People who draw us away from God, instead of closer to Him, are toxic to our spiritual health.

Detox your eye gates
What we see influences our thoughts, minds, habits, and ultimately our behaviour. Is it time to detox what you watch on TV, read in books, or view online? Protecting your eye gates is vital for maintaining a pure spiritual life.

Use the cleansing power of water
As part of my physical detox, I now drink at least two litres of water daily. Initially, I drank up to three litres a day, but as my body became more cleansed and my weight stabilised, my requirements lessened. Yeshua (Jesus) is our Living Water.

In John 7:37, Jesus declares, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! Rivers of living water will flow from His heart.” Similarly, in John 4:10, He tells the woman at the well, “If you knew the gift of God and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Spiritual detoxification must become part of our lifestyle. Just as physical water cleanses our bodies, the Living Water of Christ cleanses and sustains our spirits.

Revival starts with detoxification
When we remove what is toxic to our spiritual systems, we are revived. Our spirits begin functioning as God designed, and we are restored to His original blueprint. This revival starts with you and me as individuals, but it will eventually spark corporate revival. Embarking on a spiritual detox positions us for revival, personally, and collectively.

Embark on your spiritual detox this year
Be encouraged to undertake a spiritual detoxification exercise this year, led by the Spirit of God. This may include fasting or removing other things from your life as God directs. The results will be transformative: your spiritual insight will become clearer, your ability to hear God will be sharpened, and your senses will be attuned to His will. You will become a polished arrow in the hands of the Mighty Warrior, released for His glory.

Ke Nako! It’s time for detoxification!
