Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on 20 January. He got to work “with historic speed” signing more than 200 Executive Orders – dramatically reforming US policy on immigration, energy, the economy and domestic and foreign policy.
However, Trumps reversal of his predecessor’s policies on the sanctity of life, the primacy of the family, upholding parental authority, the protection of innocent children in education and religious freedoms will set a new course for faith, family and freedom – globally.
On his first day in office, President Donald Trump repealed 78 Executive Orders signed by his predecessor. Trump rescinded Executive Orders that promoted “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) and “the promotion LGBTQ rights.” He recognised only two genders.
Trump removed transgenderism – root and branch – from the US federal government via Executive Order on day one. Entitled, “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government” it ensures all radical gender ideology, guidance, communication, policies and forms are eradicated.
The US Senate and House of Representatives are controlled by Republicans ensuring Trumps agenda will proceed at a steady pace. Executive Orders can be reversed by Trumps successor. But Congress is drafting legislation to make many of Trump’s common-sense policies permanent to ensure the US turnaround continues well after his presidency.
The 180-degree turn in US policy signals an end to the insane woke ideology that dominated politics in America and the world. Even before Trumps inauguration, Facebook cancelled its “fact checking” censorship tool to promote free speech. A growing number of international corporations also cancelled diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies.
The US dramatic change in policy will reset the culture wars. Elise Stefanik, Trump’s nominee for UN Ambassador promised major change at the world body. Trump immediately withdrew the US from the the World Health Organization (WHO). The UN health agency will lose millions. Its proposed “Global Pandemic Treaty” is good as dead.
But what does the new Trump administration in the US mean for South Africa? Most political analysts believe Trump will take a much tougher stance on SA than Biden. The SA government’s allegiance to China, Russia and Iran and its Iran-funded prosecution of Israel for alleged “genocide” – while ignoring Putin’s atrocities in Ukraine – will raise Trumps ire.
Peter Fabricius reports, that Trumps pick for Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Peter Pham noted “all three national security team members nominated by Trump had raised concerns about “Pretoria’s positioning itself in the orbit of Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran as well as its antisemitic antics””. (The three were Senator Marco Rubio – secretary of state, Michael Waltz – national security adviser, and Elise Stefanik – UN ambassador).”
President Ramaphosa’s ANC influenced foreign policy – will be scrutinised by the Trump administration. If it believes the SA regime’s activities undermine US national security or foreign policy interest, South Africa risks losing participation in the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). This will be disastrous for the country’s economic turnaround.
ANC influenced anti-family policies like the “Single Marriage Act” that seeks to redefine man, woman marriage will likely come under the spotlight as well. The ANC and DA’s policies of sexualizing innocent children in education will run foul of the new US admin.
The good news is; many African nations do not share South Africa’s anti-family ideology but rather promote pro-family policies in their countries. Namibia recently enacted marriage laws that exclude same-sex unions. It endorsed the Biblical view of marriage in its laws.
The Church in Namibia played a crucial role ensuring marriage is preserved in Namibian law as the union of a man and a woman. Sadly, the Church in South Africa has been mostly silent on the “Marriage Bill” that aims to redefine man, woman marriage in law.
Several African nations will sign the pro-life and pro-family “Geneva Consensus Declaration” that aims (a) to secure meaningful health and development gains for women; (b) protect life at all stages; (c) declare the sovereign right of every nation to make its own laws protecting life, and (d) defend the family as foundational to any healthy society.
Joe Biden revoked the document in 2021 after Donald Trump signed it in 2020. However, the US will once again endorse the “Geneva Consensus Declaration” and will urge other nations to sign on. This document is driving a new commitment to family values – globally.
African pro-family groups and lawmakers will discuss this document at the upcoming African Christian Professionals Forum (ACPF) Conference on Family Values in Nairobi, Kenya in May. African groups will host international pro-family allies for strategy planning.
