Uganda’s chief of defense forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, said Thursday that his country could join the war against Iran “on the side of Israel,” issuing the warning in a series of posts on X as he voiced support for Israel and called for an end to the conflict.
“We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it,” Kainerugaba wrote, adding that any talk of destroying or defeating Israel would prompt Uganda to intervene. “On the side of Israel!”
In another post that was later deleted, Kainerugaba said the Uganda People’s Defence Force would begin participating in the war if it did not end soon. “Israel has a right to exist, and attacks against her must stop,” he stated.
Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni, later said he had offered the support of Ugandan defense forces to both the United States and Israel.
“We could have captured Tehran in 72 hours without any bombing,” he claimed, “but of course they never listen to a black man. Why bomb people who support you?”
The statements come as fighting continues between Israel, the United States, and Iran, with additional regional actors involved in the conflict.
Separately, Kainerugaba recently highlighted growing ties between Uganda and Israel, announcing last month that Uganda plans to build a statue honoring Lt.-Col. Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu at Entebbe International Airport.
He said the monument would be placed at the site where Netanyahu was killed following the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight that led to the abduction of about 100 Jews and Israelis.
Kainerugaba described the planned monument as a symbol of relations between the two countries, although no formal government announcement has been issued.
